When using rit dye to dye plastic, I've only gotten it to work with a very hot, near boiling solution maintained on a stove while dipping the plastic parts in the dye with a metal strainer. That was with ABS though. I'm not sure about PP.

The colors on the sides to match the colors ob the marbles should actually make it easier, just like it does for the Rubik’s cube, which has a fixed color at the center of each side. It might help you getting to the solution as well.

I just found these today on thangs. I backed that kickstarter because it was the coolest puzzle I'd seen. I was bummed that it got shut down but then I learned they ripped someone off so then I was just mad at them for doing that. Never looked to see where the OG came from but I'm glad I eventually found your channel and I'm printing one right now! If you made a metal version I'd for sure buy.

In regards to the beads, you should likely check a specialized dye for that material. Or, if you want to really go full blast with what you got, increase the dye amount, and add a weight, like some do for resin stabilization. Ink could be a nice idea too, some calligraphy inks just never come off, leave a stain forever.

Your donut factory is like the time machine puzzle, it's a 2x2 Rubik's cube with 12 rotating pieces on each side. you have to align each color to its face, and all the numbers in the right order. It's one of my favorite puzzles

I haven't yet watched the whole video...I will. But I had to ask the question. Have you tried cutting jig saw puzzels with the Xtool P2. I have cut many many jig saw puzzels using my jig saw but....just recieved a P2...not set up yet. I have wondered it it would cut thru 5/8" or even better 3/4 " material (pine, oak, walnut, cherry, etc). It appears the kerf is narrow enough and I suspect it will work. I like your 3d printed puzzels and may have to try one of those. I am not a designer but I certainly have enough puzzel patterns to start with . Thanks for you fine videos

Hmm, maybe I can demo it during an upcoming livestream! But basically, I projected the dovetail shape onto the outside of the cylinder, then revolved those 3D sketches around a common axis to make surfaces which I used as split tools to make the paths.

It seems like no one is mentioning the problem with printing kids' toys: There are no real food-safe standard printer filaments! PLA in its PURE form is food-safe but there are a bunch of additives and dye stuffs in there that are NOT. Right now I am unaware of any printing PLA that is certified for kids. A fun toy is no longer fun if it can harm your children when they put it in their mouth! Please keep that in mind.

The 2x2 cube is solvable just like a 3x3 Rubik's, except you don't need any of the moves for working out the edges; just corners. Now I'm imagining a 3x3 cube or sphere but with bead tracks added. Maybe 2 marbles per edge and 3 per corner? Maybe a non-traveling but spinable decorative marble on each center? 126 marbles, but only (ha!) 120 to solve. Might be easier than a Rubik's with just the marbles, but a bit harder with both marbles and colored facets. Man, I gotta get my printer working, or buy a new one.

I downloaded the round dovetail box to my windows desktop and once unzipped it appeared to be a corrupt file, causing my Windows explorer to go into a loop of continuously crashing. Windows clearly to blame here for some pretty terrible error handling, but just putting the warning out there in case it affects others. I had to use a Win10 installation media to get into a command prompt and delete it from there, so it could absolutely cause people some serious problems if they encounter the same issue.

  • @make.anything

@@make.anything I considered that, but the files were zipped so the extracted files would have been verified by CRC. There's no way the files weren't the correct ones. I should maybe redownload and see if I can diagnose the problem
