I regret driving an AMG. After driving an E class AMG from the mid 90s for about an hour with full throttle access available to me driving was ruined. I will never own a decent car and driving was never as fun again. .... A person simply needs to open and close a door on a Mercedes one time to understand that your American car is on the other side of the Grand Canyon in terms of quality and design. The improvements extend into every single part of the car.

Thanks for doing this video Wizard! I'm a proud owner of a 2000 E55. The M113 engine is very reliable. Valve cover and breather cover oil leaks, but those are easy to fix for a DIY-er. Everything on this car is pretty easy to work on. I replaced the motor mounts and transmission mounts myself.

Just did valve cover gaskets and breather chamber reseal with new breather hoses a few months ago. Going to do spark plugs in a few days when they come in the mail from FCP Euro. My buddy at the dealer is selling me his 2000 E320 with the rare desino green seats and I am putting them in the E430. I can’t wait. Long live the W210 E class you can’t beat it! I bought a used one. It was retuned by Brabus It was a lovely and served me well for 3 weeks, until it caught fire. Turns out that one of the previous owners installed a trans dipstick that was unfortunately the wrong spec. Unknowingly, I overfilled the trans fluid and on the motorway the car was pluming smoke and flames under the floor plan. I couldn’t quench the oil fire so just watched her burn from afar. ‘Boom boom boom’ were her last words.

The drivers side is the hardest but you can pull the pipe off the exhaust manifold and then it is fairly easy to get to. The mounts are not expensive. It makes a huge difference in the way the car feels.

Nice video! These older Mercedes-Benz models are built like tanks, I daily drive a 2000 E320 4matic (with all the options) and it's been an ultra-reliable car that is also fun & smooth to drive, and great fuel economy for a 3.2 liter V6. This generation of CLK is the convertible version of the W210 and they truly are great luxurious cars that are built to last especially since they only have naturally aspirated engines and no air suspension, they are bullet proof cars when regular maintenance is done.

One of the last good looking and well Built CLks, got the E320 4matic wagon (S210) and it’s been hella reliable even when neglected. No spec of rust, no mechanical issues, no accident 1 owner vehicle, 3rd row seats… msrp was 57k back in 01. Bought it for just 1k with 138k miles. Shes at 142 now. My other car is a W140 merc, the degradation of quality is kinda visible since the 140 was the last hurrah from merc while spending a billion dollar on the 140 project. The S class of this 2000s was a big flop, the CLK and E classes were okay. Keep up bringing these early 2000s and 90s mercs. Such a treat to the eye with their tech and complexity while being subtle and elegant, built like no other.

Cup holders' full automation eventually went, had a corner that bubbled up due to rust. After one winter had to get wiring replaced, snow melted and water leaked inside. Moonroof eventually started to get stuck, started to get misfires due to coils. This one is in incredible shape and very clean! 5:30 it's missing a horizontal strut, my had bottom bumper with a grills instead. They don't make a nice beefy rear like this anymore with split lights.

I have a 2001 model. No real complaints to say about the car. I have 47k miles on mines. I take care of the oil changes on this car. Very easy to do when using a oil extractor. Replaced the spark plugs last year. That took me a couple of hours.

My grandpa had a '98 clk 200 kompressor. The 200k was only for the 'poor' european markets, but in the pre-'99 cars (they reduced the power of the engine with the 1999 'restyle') it was better value for the money then the 230K: almost the same performance but better (marginally) fuel economy, and lower sticker price. I love that car, even after 23 years (but only 36k km) it is still a great car to drive, and with more than appropriate power for the roads and traffic here in Italy!

In 98 the 200 Kompressor was only available in Italy (and maybe Spain and Portugal, I’m not quite sure) and it was equipped with the M 111 E 20 ML, which we didn’t get in Germany at the time. Over there we only got the non-supercharged version of the 2 Litre M 111. By the 2000 model year they introduced the M 111 EVO which resulted in a sort of harmonisation of the engines offered in Europe - hence the 200 and 230 Kompressor.. Very nice to read that your grandfather’s car is still holding up nice! 🙂✌️

@@karlmuller44 to be honest the car spent most of the time sitting in a shed, only recently i convinced my grandpa to give it the love it deserves (i loved the car since the first moment i saw it when i was a kid), after this summer i'll try my hand at detailing it. The dark blue paint and the white/grey-ish interior combo is super sweet and i must say it stood the test of time, both quality and look -wise

i think a cool thing you should have pointed out with this car, is the fact that it from 2002, and it is amg, and it still uses a steering box. how well these cars drive, you would think it had a rack. that being said, great video =D

this is my fave Mercedes of all time...i want one, and I even have a 2003 sl55! although I have to admit, I'd love to see what the 5.5 Kompressor engine would do in one of these...

Hi Car Wizard, thanks for all the informative content you have provided regarding which used cars to buy and avoid. I am interested in buying a low mileage 1994 or 1995 Mercedes E320 Cabriolet. As you probably know, this was a 2 year only run of extremely expensive car which were overbuilt and overengineered by MB, with monocoque frame, a stout chassis and bulletproof driveline. There was a wiring harness issue which was handled by recall. My question to you is whether or not I should consider buying one given the age and repair costs if any are necessary? Besides the wiring harness, are there any other issues I should be aware of before purchase? Thanks for your input.
