I am 72 years old born in L. A. CA. with deep roots in La. Jefferson Davis and New Iberia Parishes to name a few. My grandma use to put a bowl of fresh Okra in front of me and places wet dish cloth beside it, and I would wipe each okra with the dish cloth. Grannye would slice the okra. She would pour some cooking I in her cast iron skillet get it rea hot then she would put the okra in the skillet cooking it in the rope cooked out, continually cooking the okra until it is a dark brown ( she would add chopped onions just as the okra starts Browning. Served over a bed of rice some good eating. Yes it was my mother who made the fancy versions of okra. I prefer fresh okra as opposed to frozen I will be moving soon and I will be planting a garden. I will be planting a variety of Okra called Jambalaya.

Great memories! My good friend from Lake Charles (passed away last year) ask me when we met how did I cook okra. Well I'm from Georgia and for the most I wasn't use to Louisiana cooking. Long story short, it's a lot you can do with okra. I've traveled and worked in Louisiana for years and consider it my second home. The food and recipes are amazing

Ms Jeannette I'm from New Iberia! My mother would also use fresh "okry" and smother it down. With just oil. With both sides of my family I've never seen vinegar!

OMG, I love this video. The way you spent 12 minutes of it cutting up vegetables and then cooked your shrimp for almost an hour was incredible. And then you sat down to eat with your friend, but never actually tasted the food was great. I'm definitely going to subscribe to your channel.

Can apple cider vinegar work with your recipe when it comes to getting the slime out of the okra?
