The WB tint issue is exactly why I bought the xe4... plus the tone curve, clarity and cl.Neg. simulation. I guess fuji needed time to evolve this for themselves, but on the new models it seems finally fully refined!

An inspired simulation would be Kodak VPS, which was the standard medium format negative used for weddings. It yielded an extremely rich warm flesh tone that as a custom color printer at a commercial lab, I was well familiar with for over a decade. Of all things, the only thing that came close to it was when our California skies were full of smoky reddish air from the big fires. Looks like Eterna leans toward vps, but not quite the molten qualiry.

Dear Nigel, Thank you for this great Video, I really enjoyed it. Just one question: With my X-Pro2 it doesn`t seem to be possible making bracketing with a selection from the self-cooked simulations. Is that right or am I doing something wrong? Hello, one doubt that I have. For recipes we use only white balance shift and we don't use Kelvin value at all. Do I understand correctly that the shift does the same thing as setting Kelvin temperature? If you select the white balance type to Kelvin on X-T2 you select temperature, but further you can select the balance? How do they interact with each other. Also when auto white balance is selected will it not change the temperature regardless of the shift that we've set?

Any recipe using *specifically Acros* requires high ISO (if you don't have the additional Grain settings on). Acros is unique in that Fujifilm engineers add grain based on the ISO regardless of the separate Grain setting. The Acros grain has a different, more film-like, grain distribution compared to the normal camera Grain setting. Push the ISO up using Acros and you get more film-like grain rather than ISO noise. I have my X-E4 AutoISO3 set to 1600 to 12800 when using Acros. Around 2000 to 2500 you start seeing the grain better. Acros is meant to be fine grain, which is why you aren't meant to see much grain at lower ISO values. When using Acros based recipes I do not use the separate Grain setting as it defeats the object of using Acros and it's "natural" grain! When using Acros, *do not turn on the Grain setting* just increase the ISO!

Memory is not the issue (using SD card and retrieve the setting from it), but I agree on some dumb down FW which Fuji marketing made.Otherwise how else would they sale the simulations while you can make them on older camera. All in all someone who is handy with cracking Fuji FW ( like Canon lantern) should enable slots which could be loaded fron a sd card.

One of the many reasons I upgraded from the X-E3 to X-E4 was so that I could save the individual WB settings to the 7 Custom Settings slots. You also don't need to keep C1 as "standard" like you do as there is an now "A" which is the default settings and then the C1 to C7 slots. Fujifilm got rid of all the "BASE" confusing mess too. They did a lot of work sort all this custom settings stuff out. Of course the X-E4 comes will all the latest goodies, like more extra grain settings, Clarity, Color Chrome Effect, Color chrome Blue, Monochromatic Color and of course the latest Film Simulations! You can also do Highlight and Shadow adjustments in 0.5 increments now. Fujifilm X RAW Studio can be used to store many Custom Settings and with the X-E4 it will copy the settings to the Custom Settings slot of your choice. No fiddling with the camera.

It sounds like custom settings have been properly sorted out - at last!

@@zenography7923 I hear MuseCam - Photo Editor for iPhone has film recipes options that you can insert with text and when you press the shutter button on your iPhone, you will have all the best Fujifilm and Kodak film Simulations coming out of your iPhone, works the same way that the Fujifilm X Series Cameras do.

For those times you don't have or can't carry around a DSLR (heresy, I know) ;) you can get a similar experience with " 1998 Cam " on your phone... so many different simulations built in.

I'm not a fan of the fujiweekly recipes. 99% of them look like muddy grungey sepia tint, or just outright white balance cockups from when we're learning how to use white balance for the first time.
