You mash them, add it to a bowl and then add your starch then put it in a dish and it goes in the oven

Nowhere else is Polynesia ? Lol We have Poke in Hawaii too, but it alot different from urs, in hawaii our poke is basically Raw fish mix with different types of ingredients.

+Jaks2much thats sounds like raw fish...probably a different dish altogether. I know in Hawaii they make this dish with taro abd they mash it up until its pulp, not sure what its called though.

bFORCe2003 - It is raw fish, but when we start mixing it and adding in other ingredients and sauce then letting the raw fish Marinade in it for a few hours it's called Pokē. The dish ur talking about where we mash the taro into a pulp is called Poi.

+Jaks2much Ahhh...thats the one, I thought it would be more like this given its gooey consistency and name.

Jaks2much...she did make a mistake in saying that because they make poke in Tahiti too...poke can be made from all sorts of fruits and vegetable, also cabin bread or cream crackers but I have never heard of raw fish poke lol. The dish becomes poke once the starch is added and becomes gooey. Very easy to make...although one must make sure one has the right measurement, otherwise it will be too hard or too soft in texture!
