This song always gets to me. When we buried my dad’s dad, I watched the strongest man I’ve ever known break down inconsolably crying for the loss of his dad. I did my best to stay strong for him. After the funeral, when I got into my truck, the first song that came on the radio was “That’s my job”. It destroyed me. I just sat in my truck crying my eyes out listening to it play. Still, to this day, anytime I hear it, tears will well up in my eyes and that sucks because I absolutely love this song. I guess that’s the nature of the beast.

When in my 30's....years before my Daddy (a big black man who loved Conway Twitty..Charley Pride...Tom T. Hall...Johnny Cash..) passed, we were jokin' n teasin' as we often did and I suddenly thought...what would I do without him? And I was overwhelmed...and said it aloud. Daddy hugged me and kissed me and admonished me all in the same breath..."gal you'll be fine...you won't have no choice...you got a family depending on you just like you depended on me!" I said okay...maybe..but I tell you now...I WILL NOT be at your service. He said, " that's okay baby...I'm only gonna be there cause I have to....". And he tickled me like when I was 5. My dad did his job....made the hardest day of my life easier.....cause the day I found out he was gone forever....I was immediately comforted by the memory of hugs kisses and a serious conversation that dissolved into laughter and love. Gotta 💕 real country. always keepin' it real.

Then two years ago i met my biological father who is now a huge part of my life. And he loves to tell me it's his job to take care of me ( I'm 26). So now the chorus is his ringtone. It kills me a little everytime but it also makes me smile. This is such a wonderful song!!

That song reminds me of my son and husband. I’m husband raised my son since he was 1 now he’s 22 and he was the man in his life and took care of him so these songs just tear me up. I agree on the brad paisley song I’m also from WV like brad so that song also has a little more of meaning for us from WV
