Converting plant to LECA Semi-Hydro | How to convert plant to soil free | No more fly gnats

Hi Guys
I've now converted several of my plants to soil free, in this video I will show you how in the easiest way i know.
3 steps to follow and you'll be soil free and fly gnat free in no time. *apologies for the odd microphone crackle.
The items i have used:
(MESHPOTS - The clear insert pots that go inside the main pot)
EU - amzn.to/2UKQbbK
US - amzn.to/2Uo9bh4
(LECA - The clay pebbles)
EU - amzn.to/2yf4ttr
US - amzn.to/3dEpVIw
(SEMI HYDRO FEED)
liquidgoldleaf.com this stuff makes your life easy, others need mixing and ph testing.
EXTRA TIPS:
between feeds feel free to just add water and every 2-3 weeks pull out the plant/insert and rinse with water - it will get your nutrients and ph back inline.

Hi, you need to fill the mesh up with Leca first, up to One-third, then you put the plant in, that way the roots will not touch the water. Thank you

@@YourBabylonPlants Great I'm glad you knew that :) This is a very informative video and simple which is so nice, the only thing I'd be concerned about is newbies doing it this way without knowing what you know and because they didn't put the 1/3 of leca at the bottom first, the roots will definitely be sitting in the reservoir and rot :/ But hey, learning curve I suppose lol. Either way thanks for sharing!

Do you really have to use an inner pot? Can you not have leca in the bottom where the water will go, then more leca, then your plant and then more leca? After awhile the roots will grow down to the bottom of the pot but they will be water roots so won't that be alright?

Hi Andrew. That's a good question and the answer is yes. It will be a conversion process again as the roots will adapt. It's similar to how many plants/veg/fruit is grown in nurseries. They often use hydroponics then transition them into soil for sale

The roots aren’t actually in the water. They are above the water source and the clay balls draw liquid up to the roots as they need it. I have heard tho that there can be a bit of a transition with the roots and new roots will form to the new medium and old roots will die off. So you have to be aware of this and not panic thinking your plant is dying.
