My favorite thing about Ian is his humility, friendliness, and passion for what he does. His interactions with his clients are always a pleasure to watch and this one takes that up ten levels thanks to the train guy. One of my favorite episodes!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

What an anticlimax. I was hoping to see it move under its own power down the tracks. Oh well, that's 42 minutes I'll never get back. Cheers from eastern TN

Frankly tho the idea of turning trucks into small locomotives kinda makes sense on a small scale private line kinda railroad. Trucks are inexpensive, chuck them on rails and have them pull stuff around your small little railway. A legit locomotive requires more money to buy and mantain and needs a specialized mechanic, with a converted truck you just need a regular mechanic

There's actually a missing beam on the cow catcher. The original photo it has a brace behind it that forms an A frame on either end that is missing on the rebuild. As this is clearly a structural piece it may be a good idea to add it to the build. Same with the missing break pads present in the drawing that's not in the picture.

I don’t understand the steering wheel, it should just have levers. Like forward, reverse on one lever and a brake on the other lever. The steering wheel is just in the way.

Well now that you have a model train layout, maybe you should pickup (not a pun) some old train and car models and build a scale 'rail truck'. Toy train electric motors are easily found.

  • @lllllREDACTEDlllll

It looks like the axle spacers were set up so that you could bolt on road wheels to the outside of the train wheels. That way you could drive on and then lift the truck off of the tracks and drive away.

The cow catcher us incorrectly named, as it's there to push ➡️ the cows out the way . Not literally catch the 'cows'. And, the "Cow Catcher" was invented by the English. But l'm having a laugh at whats being built by Ian. He's a metal moving genius.

That yellow locomotive probably had such heavy doors because it may have been ex-Army and doors were made to stop small arms fire. Another reason may have been that it was an industrial locomotive in a steel refinery and the doors were made heavy duty for the safety of the driver.

I was about to mention that myself but since those are rail fanatics and with that crazy workshop that Ian was so impressed,i'm pretty sure they will figure something out after all it will be seen as a rebuild-project-piece for the rail-yard open-museum.. We watch all Ian builds episodes from Europe big love for him he is master-mind guy i really wish there were more people like him in everywhere..
