Converting a STL file into 3d Grayscale for Fiber Laser

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I will show you how to download any STL file and convert that photo into a compatible 3D Grayscale image, this is used to 2.5D engrave into material using your Mopa Fiber Laser
In this video I use my BWM 80w JPT Fiber laser to engrave a 3d file of Goku, that I convert from STL into a PNG file.
Please note that I am in no way an expert, I wanted to do this 48hours ago and this was the solution I found, I also like to document my finding, so I have something to reference when I forget.
Share comments if you have a better solution.
Websites used in the video
www.cults3d.com - for free and paid STL files
fenrus75.github.io/FenrusCNCt... - this website is used to convert the STL file into PNG Grayscale image.
imagetostl.com/ - this website is used to test your 3D grayscale PNG and see how it will look when engraved.
Have fun :)

As you say, a simple approach that works really well. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been looking for ways to create reliefs from 3d models but the choices seem to be either wrestling with Blender depth maps or paying out for a tool like zbrush which I wouldn’t use for anything else. This approach looks really good.

Thanks for the video, I'm new in laser and I'm starting thanks to job like this. Sorry if the questions may be stupid. 1. POWER PERCENTAGE.__Why you use 50% power? Could you do 100% with fastest result, like at feed 4000 with same result? would 100% be too much for 0.08? 2. NO-MOPA LASER._______Is it possible to perform 3D task with a no-MOPA laser? like a normal fiber laser 50W? 3. FOCUS._________________If the focus is perfect on the initial surface, it become much more out of focus at any lap? How can you maintain the laser on the focus during the task? Thanks in advance for your reply

No question is a stupid question unless its unasked :) 1. Power - the more power the more aggressive, yes you could speed up with more power but the resolution wouldnt be as fine, in other words SIMPLE shapes Yes do this but intricate and 3d shapes slow down with less power 2. its all in the software, the software takes a grayscale 3d image and slices into the number of passes. the more passes you have the deeper it would be. the non-MOPA issues are mainly around frequency and the ability to colour materials. (you should be fine) 3. Focus, I listen to my laser and if I feel its going out of focus I will adjust but most of the time its ok hope that helps and sorry for the delay, im doing house renovations :)

Looks like it could’ve been a very informative video but the music drowns out your voice and you can’t hear what you’re talking about.
