Converting a Higher Order ODE Into a System of First Order ODEs

This video shows how to convert a fourth order ODE into a system of four first order ODEs, and how to convert a second order initial value problem in to a system of first order ODEs and initial values for them.

    Imagine online courses in university only teach you the content of textbook but never teach you how to use these knowledge to solve the problem and put those thing directly into the test/quiz which is extremely bullshit, even just the context of textbook they can't even teach the things in a clear way to make you understand the stuff intuitively. Thanks again this video makes everything clear.

    Why don’t you consider the coefficients of x2 when rewriting x1 prime? Same goes for x2 prime and x3 prime

    X(suffix 1) and X(suffix 2) and so on... are just different variables he created. They could easily be A, B, C, D,... instead.

    You are right. After I retire next year I'll try to work on my "production values." These videos were made as efficiently as I could, in the midst of planning lessons and grading. My intended audience was just my students, but I'm glad that others may have benefited.
