The large black box behind the driver seat used to contain radio/video equipment. The big tube would have been where all the wiring moved from inside the box into the ceiling.

One more thing... in regards to your driver seat, once the air pressure is (generally) over 100psi, there is a push button on the left side of the seat close to your knee... push that to add air to the seat, pull it to remove air. Hope that helps a bit!! Cheers

Oh my goodness you have so much to learn here. I think this job is over your head but I guess it depends how fast and well you learn.

I find it quite amusing the little things you say you found out about the bus, as it proves you're definitely not a bus rider! haha. As someone who for almost my entire life has used mass transit & my own feet (only two months now without having to), each of them were "no duh" moments for me that I thought was again, quite amusing. Like the top windows opening. haha. I would love a update on this conversion for sure!

If you're having electrical problems, you should really check the Multiplex unit which lays under the driver controls

Aaron, I recently purchased a transit bus to convert into a mobile production studio/lounge for my radio station. I'm having extreme difficulty securing parking for the bus and my insurance policy was just cancelled because I don't have a CDL. Can you suggest an insurance company and how I might apply whereby I don't require a CDL? Thanks in advance.

You shouldn’t need a CDL since it’s not registered for commercial use, but you will need a license to drive a vehicle for that weight class rating and air brakes.

@@LuckyCharms777 In Maryland, I'm required as owner of the company (and the bus) to have a CDL because of the weight of the vehicle.

@@FMXreact Ah, I guess because it’s going to be used in your business rather than privately. If you want to get your CDL to drive a bus, apply at your local transit company as a part time driver. You’ll get paid training to obtain your CDL. Stay there for however long you wish, or if you don’t mind being unethical, quit after obtaining your CDL. There’s a lot of turnover in transit agencies with many people not even completing training or quitting soon after because they decide they’re no longer interested or don’t want the stress, so it would be very easy to get hired on.

Mr. SunShine is correct. That is the box where electrical and control modules for the bus are stored. It’s probably a generic key you can buy from New Flyer, but I wouldn’t recommend removing that box. There are some important systems that are kept in there.
