Conversations- Amish Man Looks for Bible Answers and Discovers New Truths, Andy Weaver

Despite living a strict Amish lifestyle, Andy Weaver’s life was anything but simple. Like Martin Luther, Andy began to see inconsistencies that he questioned. Only when he turned to the Bible for himself did he find the answers-and faith-altering truth.

I remember watching a documentary about an Amish man who got saved by Jesus, left his Amish community, and became a street preacher. At the time I was a mocker and an atheist. Years later, today, I too am a born again street preacher. Thank God for His mysterious plans.

@@dman7668 ... no, according to the Bible, "Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth, & the Life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." "born again" means you BELIEVE the gospel ( become Believers) (Heb 11:6 & John 20:31); you've asked Jesus to forgive all your sins (Luke 13:3, Acts 17:30); you confess your faith in Jesus & asked Him to come into your life (Rom !0:10, Mt 10:32) THEN be baptised (Gal 3:27, Mk 16:16 & Acts 2:38 also Acts 8:36-38); then follow Him (Rev 2:10). Myself, i was desperate for Jesus- i asked Him to "TAKE OVER MY LIFE bcz i've made a mess of it!"

Fascinating interview! I just heard another interview with an Amish couple who left because of the Spiritual and Biblical questions they had, but more so because they wanted Jesus in their lives. They still appear to live simplistically. I’ve learned so much about the religious side of being Amish. I’m so glad that there are those who are learning Biblical truth, about a loving Savior, and how to serve Him.

Yes, when the Morman raised leave that fundamentalist cult, they do not seem to hold at all to their roots. The simple looks and dress are left behind, and it's on with the make-up and worldly dress. For the young men, often kicked out, they just seem lost . No helps. Certainly not from the family or community they left. There needs to be help for them to keep their values and to not lose the clean simplicity that Is in them. Churches need to step up with guidance, food, clothes, work, homes to come to and helps to navigate a careless and unfeeling world.

Jesus said, You must be born again. John 3:3-8. "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is spirit." Verses 3:5-6. Born again is regeneration. Noah Webster 1828 Dictionary online. 'Regeneration means; Reproduction, the act of producing anew. In theology, New birth by the grace of God, that change by which the will and natural enmity of man to God and his law are subdued, and a principle of supreme love to God and his law, or holy affections, are implanted in the heart.' Implanted. Humbling isn't it. We cannot do that. So who does God look to? the humble and contrite ones. Psalm 34:18 and Isaiah 57:15. Ask God to send the Holy Spirit to you, Luke 11:13. He will bring your sins to mind. As he does ask Jesus to forgive you. This will be painful, pride hates it! When you see your desperate need (Jeremish 17:9) for a Saviour, call out to Jesus to save you. He came to save sinners. Then do as the risen Jesus commanded, be baptized. Matthew 28:18-20, in the water of repentance Mark 1:1-5, Matthew 3:6. Calling on the name of the Lord, Romans 10:9-13. How? As Peter preached Acts 2:21, 38 and as Paul did, Acts 22:16, Acts 19:1-5. Think on Mark 16:16, 2 Peter 3:9, Romans 6:3-11, 1 Corinthians 12:13 and Colossians 2:6-15. When He has regenerated you, you will desire Him. Read His inspired word, the Authorized Version, the King James Bible. The Spirit of truth will lead you into all truth. His word strengthens, washes (as does His powerful blood). His word reads you Hebrews 4:12. Daily bible reading and prayer is essential in building on the foundation which is Christ Jesus. PS. Other apostles were baptized, they baptized others. John 4:1-2.

In similar fashion, Andy may be able to reach his fellow Amish by living an Amish lifestyle. It makes sense that the bishop was threatened by this and wanted him to move away. Also, for people who grew up in a church, that doesn't make you a Christian. Believing in Christ as your savior and following him, is the key.

The Amish tradition, with its emphasis on strict community rules, plain living, and separation from modern society, conflicts with certain biblical teachings that advocate for a balance between community and engagement with the world. The Bible encourages believers to be "in the world but not of it" (John 17:14-16), implying active engagement with society while maintaining distinct values. Additionally, the Amish practice of shunning excommunicated members contradicts the biblical principles of forgiveness and reconciliation (Matthew 18:21-22). While the Amish focus on simplicity and community reflects some biblical values, their extreme separatism and rigid enforcement of rules can conflict with the more inclusive, grace-oriented teachings of the New Testament.

The Amish people dress modestly, and follow the light given by God (on country living and dress reform) to the Seventh-day Adventists and the majority do not follow it. Yes, unfortunately Seventh-day Adventists for the most part are worldly, they dress and eat and talk like the world. Praise God for bringing this family to the truth and He will continue to guide them into all truth!

As to the idea ( which the Mennonites take from Corinthians I think) about not eating with those family members who have left the community, or who have married outside it. I disagree with that. My family went to a Mennonite service and were invited to dinner at a home afterward. Their son, who had married a non Mennonite girl and lived in town were there. They were sat at a different table than the rest, so the 'not to eat' was abided by. But visiting outsiders , myself , husband and our children sat at the family table. They associated with their son and his wife. They weren't excluded entirely. I felt the love of God should have been shown to that son more than to us who had a different belief. (We were Luthern followers.) They should have had a place at the family table.

I don't understand why the Amish would be disturbed by someone excommunicated when that person was a Catholic priest excommunicated by the Catholic Church. Luther wanted to remove certain books from his bible like James and Revelations because they did not support his theology. It seems that would be a bigger problem.

God helped me thru those years, ONE painful step at a time bcz I was saved: according to the Bible, "Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth, & the Life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." "born again" or "saved"" means, 1. you BELIEVE the gospel (become 'Believers') (Heb 11:6 & John 20:31); 2. you've asked Jesus to forgive all your sins (Luke 13:3, Acts 17:30); 3. you confess your faith in Jesus & asked Him to come into your life (Rom !0:10, Mt 10:32); 4. THEN be baptised (Gal 3:27, Mk 16:16 & Acts 2:38 also Acts 8:36-38); 5. & then follow Him (Rev 2:10). Myself, i was desperate for Jesus- i asked Him to "TAKE OVER MY LIFE bcz i've made a mess of it!" TELL EVERYONE! "to the corners of the earth", Jesus said!

I wish all these 7th Day Adventist channels would just tell us upfront that they are Adventist at the top of their shows so that we know where they’re coming from. I enjoy these testimonies, but the Adventist connection always comes out of nowhere. If they could say that the stories were how the people came to the 7th Day Adventist Church, that would be great. It always seems like they are hiding that they are 7th Day Adventist
