@lenat7397

Hi! I'm a university student and currently learning about how babies learn speaking so I feel I'm kinda qualified to answer. When babies are born, they already know the sound of their mother's language and know some language structures (a study showed that they can differentiate between words with a meaning (mostly nouns like chair, toy, food etc) and words without a meaning (like a, that, you etc)). They continue to learn differentiate sounds and learn to understand words. They start to communicate by screaming, babbling and copying way before they can talk. By 18 months, they understand about 200 words but can only say around 10-20. Babies are born with small mouths, big tongues and their larynx is high in their pharynx to prevent suffocation. That means the only sound the can produce at first is screaming. Their physical development to control their body movements developes quicker than the ability to speak (mentally and physically). Because of that, it's a lot easier for babies to talk in sign language. They may start to talk sooner and have a bigger vocabulary. TL;DR: Scientifically, she should be able to talk more in sign than in English because it's easier for her.

@@MaxineTheQueen1 that doesn’t add to or negate anything that Lena T just explained. The question was whether or not the baby understands more English or more ASL, and they answered with a scientific explanation.

@@victoriap1649 well in the tl;dr they said that the baby would have it easier learning ASL because their mother’s language is ASL which is not. Specifically not her mother tongue. The baby would have an easier time learning English

Awwww what a precious and loving kid you have 💓
I love this! I am learning ASL now and I think it's a beautiful language. For her to learn both is so great.

Yeah lol
Does she know more words in sign language or English? Not that it makes a difference really, I’m just curious which one is easier for her to learn. You guys are so cute together!

@@lenat7397 well yeah but the mother is hearing and does speak English, they just started this journey to teach the baby ASL because the dad is deaf and they want the kid to be able to speak to their father.

The baby would have an easier time learning English
adorable babs grow so fast they show us so much love.
