Same here… been watching too many US based police bodycam videos. ;)

The patience of the SPF officer are truly admirable, having to continuously repeat simple instruction and getting interrupted constantly, getting challenged and insulted by the guy

To all officers you are our guardians and direct representation of our laws and ppl. Stay calm, diplomatic and yet firm. Don't get agitated over certain misinformed members of the public. Keep up the good work.

Police can check your ID. When a case is reported, police will check IDs on all the people involved first, standard SOP. IDs of the person who called/report police, ID of the accused/suspect, ID of witnesses. Security guard may not check ID or your belongings, unless they are assigned at the gate or entrance to check, but minimum police officers and up can check. If you don't co-operate, very difficult to make your case valid or proceed with investigation. Simple thing also don't know.

I thought he is protected by his boss but got fired instead.

The police already told him under what law section empowered him to exercise his right when he demand to know the reason. If police are not given this power , how do you expect police to know if a foreign worker has a legit work permit, an overstayer or illegal immigrant? And ffs, this is Singapore not Malaysia. S.33(1) Of the Criminal Procedure Code gives a police officer the right to demand the name and residence of a person whom he reasonably believes has commited a non- seizable offence. If that person does not give his name and residence, ( ie, show his ic) , or gives a false one, he can be arrested by the police officer to ascertain his name and residence but must be released within 24 hrs or brought before the nearest magistrate's court.
