Agreed with EVERYTHING. I don't think this is controversial at all. So many people are privileged for unpaid internships, I was when I was in medical school. Given, some aren't and work two jobs- not to invalidate those. I think healthcare is the best prime example of internships being unpaid. I went to school for 5 years and worked 1000+ hours of hard UNPAID labor in clinicals to be an MRI technologist(and Xray) and image the human body with magnets all day. I think clinicals after a certain point should be paid. Sure, the first 6 months you practice and shadow techs all day but after that? After that you do xray and MRI techs jobs for them for FREE and don't get paid for another year or few years. Most nurses and doctors are the same. Residency for doctors doesn't pay enough though. Healthcare workers should be paid more, period. I'm afraid we will reach the time where people don't want to be medical workers due to the high workload, exhausting training & hours and low pay. I quit the idea of healthcare and that I was 'actually' helping others when I found out that I made the hospital $1000 to $5000 an hour scanning patients who went into crippling debt from that invoice and a small fraction of that profit hospitals made never got paid to the life-saving professionals like nurses and doctors I worked with all day. I went into healthcare to help people BUT that doesn't mean I don't also have bills to pay. Doctors, nurses, techs, assistants, the janitors that clean up blood all day, no one get paid enough for saving lives and the aftermath of that. It's so sad. I'd love to see changes in my lifetime where doctors get paid more, the ratio of nurses to patients increases and healthcare is affordable. I don't think I'll ever see that in my lifetime but I can only have hope.

Hey Blair, I'm the nurse you gifted scrubs to in January! Since you mentioned nurses and their salary in the video, nurses can make either a lot of money or very little depending on the state they live in. I live in a big west coast city and hospitals start new nurses out at $45 an hour here and senior nurses make like $75 an hour! But in other states that number is closer to $30 an hour for new nurses. IMO we should be paying our nurses WAY more for all the crap they put up with from patients and providers. Please post more videos like this, I love hearing what you have to say and I genuinely think in 20 years you could run as president LMAO

I was living off loans, trying to get as much out of this internship as possible. The president of the firm KNEW this about me and basically made sure I learned nothing. She was just weirdly abusive and made me a gopher. Why even waste my time like that? So cruel.

Girlies if people are being weird about your choice not to drink alcohol, just tell them you have a pollen / dust allergy or smth basic like that and you're taking meds for it, so you shouldn't drink. Just make sure to research what basic allergy med is used in your country in case someone asks. I used to drink but realized I don't actually enjoy it and quit, it was so hard explaining to friends why I stopped but I figured out that I shouldn't be drinking with my allergy meds anyways so people usually stop asking questions / pressuring you if you mention it!! And please do research yourself what alcohol exactly does to your brain, you'd be shocked. Thank you Blair so much for mentioning it!! At evening there is no table without some form of alcohol on it & people would exclude you from their groups just because you dont drink. Its crszy considering there are a lot of middle aged homless people near supermarkets who are alcoholic and drinking oretty much destroyed their life. Tons of young people also come from families which had alcoholic parent thats csused hugentrauma on them and alcohol is still so normalized despite destroying people:s lives on daily basis.

I have tried to explain to my father that wanting universal healthcare does not mean we want “communism”. It’s very bizarre to me that some People will use that as an argument against universal healthcare and universities. It’s so impossible to be able to pay all bills, have an emergency fund and also save for retirement. A lot of people in my generation that are in 30s can’t even buy a home. Then they wonder why more of us are choosing not to have children. Don’t even get me started on childcare and the lack of help for mothers in the us!!! I liked this video and I’m glad you brought up these topics. ❤

My parents were very neglectful of me growing up but still found time to push the “you have to go to college to get a good job” message… now that I’m grown… wow we’re they wrong. 1- college isn’t for everyone 2- if you don’t have a passion for something, don’t go to college thinking you’ll find your major eventually. What twisted logic is that, this is what you’re doing for the rest of your life. 3- if my parents weren’t so narrow minded I could’ve learned a trade earlier, not had student debt lingering over my head, and I would’ve found the confidence I have now knowing that I’m actually good at something and can provide something to the world, and all as a college dropout 🤗 And 4! If you don’t have a support system with family, think again if you want to go to college. Doing this without a support system is borderline impossible (props to those that got through it all alone❤️)

I think a big problem with Healthcare is using insurance for too many things and the huge administrative and billing costs now with insurance (and how billing is so complex to increase chargeable items). If you go to urgent care and pay out of pocket it's a fraction of the cost with insurance, as just one example. We should shrink the administrative costs of billing and it will help brings costs down. We have less doctors and huge administrative departments in hospitals now. And I believe this is also seen in countries with government-run healthcare; they have a large administrative cost to process all the transactions.

Healthcare here in the US is downright dystopian. My parents are in their 70s & hate going to the doctor because they’re afraid if something IS seriously wrong, they won’t be able to afford treatment anyway. Back in my late teens/early 20s, I didn’t have any kind of dental insurance, nor the money to pay out of pocket without it. So I set myself up for the horrendous dental problems I’m now dealing with in my 40s. Even with decent insurance now, it’s too late to undo all the neglect from early on. And it is STILL prohibitively expensive.

Psych grad and neuroscience researcher here! Alcohol does technically 'numb' our brains, that's why people blackout when they have had too much to drink. As for the Prefrontal Cortex (PFC), it does inhibit our actions etc. The reason for this is that our PFC is vital for decision making, strategizing, and general 'moral' type actions. When drinking alcohol, the first thing to go (functionally) is our PFC. From there other brain structures begin to fail us as well or become the dominant one. For example, the hypothalamus is for our more primitive decisions and that is why we see more reckless behavior in drunk individuals (Such as anger, which also involves the amygdala)! Without the PFC being as active, there's nothing really there in our brain to go "Is this the best decision?". Awesome video, couldn't agree more with... everything!! Sending love.

Blair you're so funny lol trust me I went through the same thing around 28, until then i was a huge partyer. Then my frontal lobe snapped into place lol All of the sudden i cared about my long term health, and realized my lifestyle was making me ill. I smoked cigarettes and was constantly getting sick with tonsillitis. So i quit and also quit drinking. Lots of people asked questions but didn't really want to hear the answer. I'm 37 now and literally HALF of those people are addicts and are in bad situations. Some dead. 😞 It's heartbreaking.

I totally agree about college and student loans! If I can give my advice to kids who graduate high school, it would be to go to community college part time. Pay it out of pocket while you work, live at home with the parents and take your time figuring out what you want your future to be. The issue I have is that high school counselor’s and teachers pressure kids to go to university. Sure it’s be they might care for their future but really I think it’s so the school looks good during the graduation walk. Second, kids who go to college right after high school have a 90% drop out rate(my statistics from nowhere lol). After that first round of taking student loans and failing classes, parents do not want to co-sign another $30k. I honestly think universities should allow students starting at age 21. Community college and going part time for 15+ year olds. The thing about college, is that originally it was fairly affordable. As soon as the government started subsidizing college tuition, both universities and banks saw an opportunity to make money off people. The worst part is that people will promote college for others who clearly aren’t prepared to do the work. Too many 18year olds are immature and should enjoy a time without the stress of bills and careers by 22. Their biggest stresses should be gaining entry work experience, not choosing between writing a paper or hanging out with friends. Although it’s great to have a career at 22 for some, majority of these kids are a dropout with 1 year of university, and they start a successful career without college or self teach themselves skills from KZread. Hello? Free learned skills? Thats universities worst nightmare. The fact is, universities are majority women now because men see it as a waste of time and money. So in the next 5-10 years we will see women hopefully with careers and debt, and men with a careers but without student loan debt. It’s going to be wild.

The alcohol opinion❤️ alcohol is literally a drug. Also the way it makes people dumber and dumber by time.. i have friends where i can literally feel how they‘re dumber than 5 years ago… it‘s so weird because i‘m just 26 imagine in many more years :( makes me very sad. Also if you get into how many doctors and everything are drunk while working :) or think it‘s okay to have a glass or something.

I went to a private college had an unpaid internship at a tv station because i was a communicatios major. Anyway they gave me stupid things to do. One of them was wrapping gifts. I am a horrible gift wrapper. I am talking sloppy and uneven sides. Anyway they gave me a bad review because of the gift wrapping i did. I feel like it was a waste of my time. They need to get rid of these unpaid internships.

Agree with everything but especially the nurses should make more point and the alcohol point. I had an alcohol abuse problem and no one noticed until it developed into drug addicition because alcohol is so widely accepted. It took me years to realize that alcohol was the root of my addiction issues!

Pre-existing condition is banned to discriminate against for not being able to get insurance BUT the issue is it can be undone. Affordable Healthcare Act banned insurance companies from not allowing people with conditions to not be cover especially since it was required to get healthcare (or face a 500$ tax penalty). I know this as someone with multiple conditions that would not be covered without Affordable Healthcare mandating companies to cover me, and in collage i was poor - tax independent - and paid the tax penalty since my former state would not give me healthcare cuz i did work enough (even tho my full time job was being an engineering student who also worked 25-30hrs a week part time). The tax penalty is paused/over rn but can be brought back. each your company gives you a form that shows the months you had healthcare to proof you had coverage for if they bring back the penalty. One thing to note tho since I have pre-existing conditions what 1 person gets covered for free since it's a routine check I have to pay for since it's a test that can be related to my condition, but also to get other tests covered by insurance you need the condition to be diagnosis. It's a mess

I literally graduated a year early with the highest gpa in my school that year, earned a grant, only for it to be taken when I graduated because my mom earns too much money. My mom wanted me out of the house as soon as I graduated basically so... how is this fair? I tried so hard to make things easy for me later in life, for it to literally take me nowhere and lead me to feeling pissed off with the education system.

I agree with you, college education shouldn’t be free because that would be taking way too much out of taxpayers but It should not be as expensive as it is now. That’s why do many gen Zs are moving to trade school to a avoid loans and the demands are high - I worked at UPS throughout my college career for interior architecture reimbursements to avoid being in debt and my fiance went into trades

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, how the biggest influencers out there are so neutral ALL the time. They are like robot sales women who do nothing but shop, redecorate and go to pr trips. They are all the exact same person in different fonts. They don’t talk about anything serious EVER and when there are “controversies” around their name is because of something horrible they did (scamming, being rude etc) not because theyre standing up for anything 😅

my history prof said that most major insurance companies have their roots in slavery. when people bought slaves that died on the boat it caused enough of a problem that people were able to buy insurance on the slaves they bought.
