Control Relays (Full lecture)

In this lesson we'll introduce the control relay, an electromechanical device that forms the principal logical element of an electrically controlled system. Relays can perform numerous functions by selectively energizing or deenergizing other elements within the system or between two separate systems at the appropriate moments to coordinate and sequence activity.

Hi Mr Pytel, For several months after first working with control relays I had been referring to this video to refresh my understanding when work with relays was required. Through repeated work experience and repeated exposure to this video, I was able to move from nebulous understanding to a solid understanding of control relays. In my work I am also regularly exposed to safety relays. Saddly there is no online resource that I have been able to find that explains them in any detail. I know you are very busy, but would you consider doing a lecture on safety relays and safety switches at some point in the future? Thanks for all your help, John

It’s a waste of time. If you don’t know what a terminal does and you don’t have the cut sheet, use the continuity function on your multi meter.

RB ... yes! One of the earliest lessons involves me tossing a relay at a first year student and asking "What is connected to what? Use your DMM to tell me." After poking around in ohmmeter mode they can determine the layout without even understanding what a relay is nor interpreting terminal numbers. Later on in the motor control class the relay doesn't seem that intimidating.

Mr. Pytel, I like your presentation. Like you are some kind of professor. With your "on the spot" technical explanation I enjoyed every slide. Especially I would like to express my appreciation for the last test problem 👍 it was stimulating and funny at the same time. Now I will never forget the relay logic. And it is good to see practical example of relay to be familiarized with various types. Thanks for that too. All best for such future videos. Subscribed. Any chance to see Electrical circuits from Eplan with relays in them, I'm starting to work in automation field and currently trying to understand how to follow schema.
