Contributing to Open Source will change your Life | How to Start? | Ali Solanki
Ойын-сауық
How to start open source Contribution? Open source contributions can change your life and this is me doing an Open Source Contribution live! With this video you will be able to make your very first pull request.
You can use your past contributions on a resume or even better just using Github you can land a job! Many open source contributors are later hired by the companies they are contributing to and this is the trend that is being followed by a number of open source projects.
Here's how to make your first Open Source Contribution:
1. Open github.com/alisolanki/Welcome...
2. Read README.md file for contribution guidelines
3. Fork and make changes
4. Commit and Push your changes
5. Open a Pull Request (PR)
6. Take feedback and make changes

Excellent video for beginners. I have just contributed to this project. It's my second time contributing to any Open Source project though.
Hi, thank you for this content. FYI, I need to do the first-time GIT setup before I did the commit changes in my Visual Studio Codes and then followed by Sync Changes. Big thanks 🍉
Amazing, I will to try it. Thank you
The hard part where I & most beginners are confused is how to find good first issues *corresponding to my own tech stack* like for example if my tech stack consist of java, spring, Hibernate. Then its difficult to find repositories for these certain technologies and even if I find out any of the good first issues, corresponding to my tech stack then in most of them contributions are ALREADY made by others ! In that case what a beginner can do ? Its really hard to find out typos or any other fixable mistakes !

Understood, I can make a video on this, do some contributions to real world projects like Flutter and show it live. I believe a video like this is not made as it will be too niche down. People who are interested in open source and that too Flutter would watch that specific one. If you're really interested, let me know I can make a detailed course on this on my courses platform (courses.alisolanki.com) just like I had made for making NFT collection

But github PR is too general, I wanted this to go to the people who were making their "first" PR, that's why "how to start". Also I've also taught about merging the PR, making changes in an existing repo, talked about how to find repos to contribute to and a lot more. I feel the title you're suggesting might mislead the audience

It would have been nice if you had shown by setting up a random open source project or finding good first issues instead. Whatever u mentioned above - first pr, merging pr, making changes, searching, etc all comes under "github" context. This is a pre req before u contribute to OS, it's like people not knowing github and wanna contribute to OS.
how to add those source control extension
I'm scared of contributing as I feel I need to be very good in my domain to even understand the code base and contribute which I am not currently infact I never feel prepared enough.
Made my first PR, please do merge it!

Haha it's actually generated using Premier Pro's plugin for auto caption. You can look it up if it's open source. Open Source Contribution is never recommended to anyone during their first 4-5 years of coding. They would be create more problem for the github community than contributing anything.
@AliSolanki
Жыл бұрын
No, this is a major misconception. You can do open source contributions without coding knowledge as well. Docuementation requirements are rising day by day and many projects need these things. One of the first contributions I had made was in matic (polygon) documentation itself.
