What is Contra return(s)? Or do you mean Contra Rouge Corps which came out in 2018 or 19?

@@ShinesparkContra Returns is a mobile contra game for Android. It’s free to play now and it’s actually pretty decent except then forcing you to play through easy mode first but yeah this one is better but not by much. Contra 4 and Contra rebirth was pretty good too. I Contra 4 was on NDS and Contra Rebirth was for the Wii virtual console. Now I’m waiting for the new Contra game for all platforms coming out this spring. Hopefully early spring.

I remember people hating on this remake when it first came out and I can't quite see why. It looks faithful to the NES version almost to a fault... So unless controls are busted, I don't quite see what could really be wrong with it. Maybe bullet speed is a bit off and some enemies take too few hits, but I did not measure it, so I can't even tell for sure.

I think it is a pretty good remake. The controls are pretty much what you expect from a classic Contra game and like you said it's faithful to the original. I guess it's same with any other remake of a beloved classic, that many people just say it's garbage without even playing it. The biggest problem of this game is, that it was never really released on home consoles or handhelds at the time.

Gameplay looks fine, the art style feels like a fever dream of those old hyper realistic NES remakes you would see in the 2000s... which given when it came out isn't surprising.

Really wish they had a 100% English translation of this.

Looks cool. Loved the original. Only things I'd change is remove time limit and make the guns faster like in the original game instead of 2 shots per second. And change the power-up things that fly by back to football shaped. And obviously make all text english.

I think they added a time limit because this is an arcade game and I guess it is common among those. They don't want you to pause the game and hope more people would play it to gain more revenue. This game was only released in China and never ported anywhere else. But WayForward is working an a Contra remake called Operation Galuga which will come out next year.

They need to add a power up storage slot for spread falcon to be stored then can appear on the battlefield when you need it (like super mario bros 3) If I have rapid Spread Falcon I can win the whole original game in about 20 min or so I become that unstoppable.

Contra ist auch seit den 80ern als es erstmals rauskam stark von Alien inspiriert. xD

Might be even more robust in Contra Shattered Soldier. xD

This needs to be on console, I would pay a full 60-70 bucks just to be able to play this on Xbox or PlayStation.

I personally wouldn't pay that much for it. Besides that I think the new Contra Operation Galuga will be much better than this simple remake. I could be wrong but this game isn't a full price title in my opinion.

I'm sorry but for a modern remake this looks like a 94 game almost like when the first mortal kombats were coming out

Isn't it quite normal that remakes of classic games use older graphic styles? Especially during the time this game was released. Besides that this game was made for mobile devices in 2010, but well I had nothing to do with this game so I won't do you any good to complain to me. xD

the original game was much more hardcore. Enemies had more hitpoints, and bullets were faster. It was next to impossible to beat the final boss with a default machine gun weapon because it generated so many aliens, and each of them had to take several bullets, and they had much quicker rush :) The obvious pro here is a graphic (as game artist myself, I would compliment level designer here).

The original was made in a different time for videogames. Arcade games were released to create revenue and games for home consoles in the west were more difficult to prevent people from renting them. I have no problem when developers make games more accesable to a wider audience. I also grew up in the NES era and love many of the classic games. So I can understand both sides.

I guess you can consider this game already a remaster although I would say this is more like a full remake.

According to Konami it is available on Android and IOS but I have never seen it in the store. But Google is your friend.
