The control and gameplay on the NES was so tight. The arcade feels a little fuzzy.

@@finewinemattthe arcade had more conde into the directional shots. Just shoot straight up and then shoot your way down to forward. It has a rolling mechanic that simulates a bunch of different angled shots and it takes a second to go straight again.

Better graphics with arcade but classic memories with NES. Thanks for sharing!

Just imagine what Konami & SNK could of created in the dungeon laboratory for the Neo Geo AES version of this game if they wanted to back in 1990. These are the things I've always dreamed about and still do to this day but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the NES counterparts, we all did because we had no other choices. My favorite home port has to be Contra Hard Corps. Now this is the perfect prototype game to build off of if they were to ever have made the game for the Neo for sure👍😎👌

Oddly enough, the NES version looks like a recent indie game :D

@@The_Invisible_Man To each their own. I've played both and for some reason the NES version feels more fluent. Maybe I'm just more used to it since it's what I mostly grew up with.

I like the moving tree animations (which were dead on both the NES and arcade versions) in the Famicom version.

Arcade version has nicer graphics, but the NES version feels more refined in terms of gameplay. The arcade one has a weird slow-moving direction aiming feature which makes it kind of annoying to shoot stuff while the NES one's pretty much instant. Not to mention the few added bosses and stuff. Normally I'd side with the arcade version in most cases, but in this case I prefer the NES one.

Ive been trying both and honestly the arcade version has better graphics and its response time is way better. Being able to move good matters on arcade.

Only if you get rapid does the arcade feel more directionally smooth. It was probably a quarter sucker mechanic tbh

Overall, the NES game is the best version. However, I will say this: The Jungle, Maze, Energy Zone, and Maze Boss tracks are way better in their original respective pitches.

This is one of those games, where despite running on inferior hardware, the NES port is just a better game.

arcade definitely I love the vertical screen great for bosses

Bro yall aren't the only ones. The arcade version for this game doesn't do it for me at all. I just like the better jungle juncture music. Stage 3...always liked that song

I def didn't have that version of contra in the USA

for the first stage the arcade version has better graphics but the colors look washed out, the NES is more appealing with the animated leaves as a plus. pretty cool how the arcade has a mini map for the 2nd stage. the arcade version blows the NES version for that part of the game.

​@iLoveJackingOn Some levels scroll UP, tho. And the boss fights and base areas make more sense in taté mode as well since it's a behind view.

I've never owned a NES, but I must say... Yeah, the arcade version has better defined graphics, more colors, etc. But I like NES style more. By a lot.

Both are great, but the winner is the arcade version of Contra😀😀👍🏼👍🏼🎮🎮

NES in my opinion. Graphics don't make a game better, this is why (for example) i'm still playing PSX /SAT/N64 games instead of playing games of the actual generations. Always the gameplay matters. Still if the arcade version looks better i like more the Famicom/NES port and the pseudo 3D parts looks really impressive for a 8-bit machine. Also this game was the infancy of much persons (including me).

I feel like the arcade version is shorter and harder (as most arcades), and the aspect ratio makes for a more frustrating side-scroller experience. NES is better. However the best version is the one on Famicom with the extra effects, sounds, cutscenes and map between missions.

Yeah the Arcade version do have a fancy graphics, sound, BGM, etc but the NES version still holds a special place in my heart. Either way, Contra is of the most iconic game of all time 👍🏻

... so NES USA version was trimmed. They removed all intros and stage animations.

No, the NES version was released first. Those features were newly added to the Japanese Famicom version the following year.

​@@rocketcon Uh, no. It came out in Japan just a week after North America. So the game paks were probably assembled at about the same time in both regions.

Arcade has better graphics but the NES version is a better game due to gameplay.

I don't know why, but I really hate the gun sounds in the arcade version. Sounds to Sci Fi to me while the NES has one has those crisp real gun like sounds.

Nes for me graphics are good on the arcade version but the colors looks dull in some stages, the jumping feels clunky and the levels are shorter and personally I like the nes music more those Konami drums gets you pumped up for the action
