Continuous Bias Tape tutorial. Different fabrics & practical examples. Bias tape maker sizes.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I made 8.5 yards of double fold bias tape from a 20.5” square of satin and am sharing step by step how to do this precisely using a little gadget that is easy to obtain. I frequently make self-bias tape for different uses like: finishing armholes, necklines, hems, edges of facings, hong kong finish on seams and the type of fabric plays a huge role in its use and appearance. I am showing practical examples in my own sewing to inspire you 😊

If you put the tube over the ironing board with a cutting mat on it you can use a rotary cutter. Much faster. Great instructor.

I love how you show your mistakes that we should watch for while making our items. Showing how to make so much bias out of a small square is very helpful. I like bias tape for many things--but you have shown how you successfully use bias tape for many applications. Mostly, sewing patterns use a lot of facings, which are a pain and not always better. I also. Really like how you use self bias on a shirttail hem. I make a lot of shirts and this will look much nicer.

The smaller bias tape sizes, 6 mm or 12 mm, are good for making fabric ties, instead of fiddling with rouleau loops. Nancy Zieman, a USA sewist on public television, suggested using a straight pin to guide the fabric through the tape maker, but whatever works for you! THANK YOU for such an informative video.

Hi Karina, Sorry I haven't been commenting as much. I am not well. This tutorial was brilliant!!! Just wonderful thank you! I'm a quilter and this is a great way to get a lot of bias binding if I need it. I also wanted to mention for assistance with ironing see if you can't find a Tailor's Clapper. It is wood that helps your fabric to become extremely flat. After you iron, you put the Clapper on the fabric it absorbs the heat leaving it really flat. Helps a great deal when making bias tape for e.g.

I enjoyed watching your video, and I am a happy, new subscriber. I made my very first continuous bias tape last summer. I wish I had found your tutorial back then. My bias tapes turned out wonderfully, but it took me time to research various tutorials before I found one that actually made sense to me . Your garments are absolutely lovely and you are someone I can relate to since I am one who cares about aesthetics and I love the idea you had about using a lighter weight fabric when encasing a seam in a garment that has a main fabric of a denser weight. That makes perfect sense, but then...you are perfect! Thanks for sharing.

thank you so much 😊. I do put a lot of thought into how to finish my garments. I love them to be unique and the highest quality possible, as well as being pretty. I see it as an art form. I hope you enjoy the channel.

Thank you for all of your helpful information in your videos. I have been looking for the video that you show how to neatly attach the join on bias tape that shows on the front of the garment. I saw it once and I think it involves sewing the ends together, but how? Also the video showing how to do a square neckline with bias tape on the outside. Thanks again Karina.

Sewing the ends together: in the Suraya jacket video. I haven’t shown a square neckline with the tape on the outside.

Thanks for this video. I usually cut strips and sew each one together because I can never remember the continuous way. I'm going to give this a try. I also love your idea for making binding from an old shirt. I never thought of making binding out of fabrics other than cotton.

I sometimes make three strips and sew 2 little seams. If I need a small amount only. That’s ok too. I do make a lot when I have a nice square left over. It’s fun. Thanks for watching 😊.

Great topic. Love to hear about repurposing fabric for binding. Very clever idea when so much goes to landfill. You often comment about using less fabric so very practical information thank you.

This video I found so very useful ... and so it has inspired me to make my own. Loved all of your makes using all of your own hand made biases, as you’ve have said so mush better than bought ones. 👍👍👍

Thank you! I have wanted to make my own bias tape for a while but always thought I would screw it up. This is such a simple way to do it and a great way to use all those scraps and smaller cuts of fabric that I don't know what to do with. This also gives me another project that I can do at work.
