Continental Divide Trail Thru-Hike Part 1: The Southern Terminus
This is the first installment of my Continental Divide Trail Thru-Hike Series. In this video, I start my thru-hike at the southern terminus of the #CDT (Crazy Cook Monument) on the border of Mexico and New Mexico. It's the start of a 2,700 mile long journey along the Continental Divide, across the United States, and through the back country of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. In addition to exploring the Chihuhuan desert in the boot heel of New Mexico, I also explore how I feel starting my second long distance backpacking trip ever in my life and my first #ContinentalDivideTrail thru-hike.

Have you ever tried to drive to a trailhead and it didn't go as planned? What was your story?

Yay!! So glad you're here. Thank you!
Elise! I'm super excited for this. By the way, your PCT gear list was one of the most helpful in planning my own thru-hike, hoping to see another one from you for this one!

That looks amazing! Can't wait for my own CDT thru-hike someday. Also, questioning my sanity considering you have a heat wave and blisters and all that haha You were killing it and I am so in awe of what you did!

haha we all have to be a little different to want to do something like this, it's hard, but if you want to do it you absolutely can! and thank you!
Really looking forward to your hike. Great style, love the narration. I can tell it's going to be a good story. Well done! As someone who grew up in the Southern Arizona desert, Pro Tip: wear light colors! Dark colors absorb so much more heat! ☀️🏜️🔥🌡️🥵 I'll never understand why sun hoodies are made in black, navy blue, dark green - unless you want extra roasting! Thanks for the effort and sharing your hike! ✌🏽

thank you so much!! I wasn't sure how the narration was going to come through but keeping journals along the way helped a ton. I hear you on the dark colors, I did have a sun umbrella too which helped. In the future, though, I'll be looking for lighter colors.
Oh I just made me hungry
Love the vids. I hike here in the uk and put vasceline on my feet and between toes, to stop blisters. Seems to work.

yes! i've seen people do this, I should have been more on top of it. next time!
great video! most thru hiker vlogs are unwatchable garbage and/or simply feeding the algorithm for monetization. thank you and looking forward to future videos.

I'm thrilled to not fall into the "unwatchable garbage" category - haha! I hope I stay there and thank YOU for watching!
apparently they've now installed gates in all but 2 locations of the boot heal, so no more crawling through the dirt

sounds like 2 times of still crawling through the dirt haha but truly there weren't too many even at the time I went through. I'm sure the trail will just keep getting better!

New Mexico is my jam. One of our most beautiful states.

It’s gorgeous! Brutal, but gorgeous! I hope one day the CDT will be able to get off some of the roads through the state as well.
Sigh...I did not have tarantula hawks on my "concerns" list.

They are pretty rare and tend not to bother people usually! Also very pretty in person!

Did someone really shoot at the southern terminus stone or what is that circular hole?
@eliseott

Ya know? I have no idea I just assumed it was some funky erosion at the time but o guess shooting is possible too 😅

@@eliseott Pretty sure it's from a bullet. Plenty of metal signs in the desert are riddled with holes. It's not too far fetched imo that someone would should at the terminus, which is a little sad tbh.

@@holykuhmeinefresse yeah I’ve definitely seen the bullet riddled signs. Doing it at the border seems risky but I guess it’s still public land 🤷🏼♀️
