This village at the foot of a tufa cliff is unique and has been voted the most beautiful village in France since 2022. The houses here are particularly neat, restored and decorated in a typical Provençal style. Those under La Cassole are a fine example, and those on the rock, home of the troglodytes, have a special charm. From the top of the rock there is a wonderful panorama of the terraced hills, where olive trees, cypresses, pines, oaks and other Mediterranean vegetation, against the background of the blue sky, offer the inhabitants a place to choose. Alleys and cobbled streets leading to small squares, almost always respecting the authenticity of the place, are cheerful and full of flowers.
The courtyard in the center of the city, lined with plane trees, is a chic place to stroll, sit in a cafe or eat in one of the many establishments. A special atmosphere radiates from this always lively and often festive place.

This tufa rock, 400 m long and 80 m high, offers a view of the wonderful village of Cotignac. In the Quaternary era, the river La Cassolle flowed along the rock. Back then, the village was just the base of this huge waterfall. This river was then diverted and now runs east of the village to fall into the Argens.
It was these waterfalls that formed all the petrified cascades and gorges, which later served as shelters for people and animals.
Today, the Rock is a symbol of the village of Cotignac and can be visited during the specified hours.
