Contessa 26 Refit ep.36 - Building a 3-Piece Sculling Oar
Documenting the refit of a 1975 Contessa 26 - J.J. Taylor build. Not an instructional video; recording for my own reference.

Thank you! 👍
Starting mine today!
Great work! The three price design is very intruiging; I’ll have to see if I can find a similar method.

Thanks. I’m testing it out now and hope to have a follow up video sometime in the future.
Interesting! I wonder how the sleeved joints fare in use; whether they stay firm and all, over time, as they transmit power and the twisting forces. Is there any taper to the brass parts or are they constant diameter tubes?

So far the sections have stayed together when in use, but time will tell if I need to insert a screw. The brass sleeves are a constant diameter, so sometimes a little lube is necessary.
I’m gonna try the brass varnish spray. Thanks

It works great. Some reports say they’ve had it for years and still going strong.
