Contact Mic Sound Board DIY

Музыка

Some screws, some springs, some pieces of metal and a piezo contact microphone - that's all you need for an electro-acoustic sound board like this.
Additional effect: Digitech Obscura Delay

Thank you for featuring defined tones and making it slightly more musical and relatable.

Thanks, man. "The Witch" is an awesome movie. I had to look up the instrumentation for the soundtrack. The composer used a Nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument. It looks fancy.

I like how you use the most mundane objects to make sound in this video and in the other video of yours that I just watched - your custom ambient presets on the X - you use sampled, and synthesized digital technology! Perfect combination of musical approaches!

Thanks for the nice words. Building this little thing was actually great fun. A little shopping tour in a hardware store and for about 25 Euros you have a unique sound source.

I know it's been 4 years since you posted this video but I only came across it today. Can I ask you about where you put the piezo? I notice that there's a grey box with a volume knob on it at the back of the Sound Board, is this connected to the piezo as a volume control and is it passive? Thanks. This has been an inspiration to me for building my own. I had been thinking I had to use a box and not just a board so it's simplified the whole construction process.

Hi John, thanks for watching and commenting. About the piezo: You can see black duct tape running from the box with the volume knob to another grey box in the center of the board. Beneath this smaller box is the piezo. Under the duct tape is the cable from the piezo to the box with the volume knob and the cable plug. It's that simple. I bought some cheap piezos with volume control and 6,3 mm jack plug online. They're passive. I also built a metal box in the past. But I prefer this simple board because you can reconfigure the whole setup anytime. And in my opinion wood sounds better than metal as basic material.

  • @calutron8288

I didn't use an amplifier here. From the piezo into the delay pedal, from the pedal into the audio interface/the computer - that's all.
