One of my favorites. I always thought of it as an overhand knot under/in a clove hitch.

That is what it is -- a modified clove hitch. But you are going to have a messed up time if you need to have tension on the line while you are trying the knot. It is a pretty knot as long as you are just going to show the knot but no practical application for the knot

@@knotknuta clove hitch can be tied while maintaining pressure. This knot can not so easily because it requires going under the line that has the tension

We had a knot when i ironworked they called the apprentice knot. It was a kind of dangerous way to lower buckets of bolts to a lower floor. It was tied in a way where it would pop loose when the bucket hit the floor. 😂

Why wouldn’t you just tie a clove hitch with a safety

This grips a lot more tightly. Clamp it down enough and you will have to cut the rope to ever remove it. Clove hitch is better in 95 percent of situations though

A clove will roll out or slide under a load unless you tie it off with half hitches. This knot pins the tail under the wraps to help prevent it slipping. Although being a much cleaner knot i would most certainly not trust it under heavy loads.

I like using the constrictor over the clove hitch because when you tension the constrictor hitch it holds very well. I will be posting another video of the constrictor hitch being tied a different way very soon.
