CONSTANT VIGILANCE With Your Chicken Coop!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

(Did you read that title in Moody's voice?...)
RSM (and her friendly feral, Luna Fuzzbutt) wanted to show you something that the cat found one winter morning. Even with a secure chicken coop and run, you must continue to be vigilant. This means doing things like: doing regular medical check on your chickens (there's a vid for that), walking the perimeter of your chicken run to check for damage or attempted break-ins, and checking every part of your chicken coop for damage and attempted break-ins too.
THE CHICKEN TENDER'S JOURNAL IS READY FOR PURCHASE! RSM is so happy to offer this, and really appreciates your support. realsimplemama.com/the-chicke...
Remember that RSM has literally hundreds of videos here to help you get more detailed information on all kinds of topics, from chicken medical issues and general health, to chickens and your plants, to chicken treats and snacks! You can also email her at theMama@realsimplemama.com
RSM now works with Grubbly Farms to spread the word about healthy, sustainable feed and treats for your backyard chickens! Grown responsibly in the US and Canada, always ship for free, and use RSM’s code for your own discount! glnk.io/mxkx/real-simple-mama

Yep - I check on them regularly but hadn’t done an in-depth check in a while. I’m glad I did! ✌🏻❤️🐓

I got tired of sparrow coming into the coop eat the feed I got a “Grandpas Feeder”. Where they have to step on the treadle and the top opens to the food. It was pricy. Took a few weeks to train them to step on the treadle. But now it saves me a ton in feed and it’s paid for itself. No more sparrows as there is no feed for them to get to. Wise words to remind people to check for invasions.

My only attack was a neighbor dog that cross the street and swam through my pond to my free range chickens

I hear ya. They're very intelligent and relentless. It's just one of those things where ya have to be on top of it at all times. It's tiring, but the effort is worth it! Cheers

New chicken mama. I don’t free range my chickens either. I only have 4. But what do you put in run now that grass has died. I throw grubs and treats down, but what about grass, plants or whatever. Any help is so welcome!! Thank you!

Hey! No I totally get it. Grass is overrated anyway ☺️ I have a whole playlist here called “Chickens in your garden” that shows what plants I have and how I do it. But basically, I looked for heat, hardy perennials that thrive in my part of Texas, that are not poisonous to chickens. That way they will live for years, and either the chickens can eat them for health benefits, or they leave them alone, so that they can thrive! You can also do potted plants or hanging baskets, plants, that climb on the fence, and all kinds of other things to give the chicken run a bit more depth. ✌🏻❤️🐓🌱
