wow, this is amazing footage :o) I'm actually from Stoke, but moved to Consett a few years ago after being given a house here :o) At first, I must admit, I thought, scruffy northern town, but since then, have become absolutely fascinated by it's history. As a natural born explorer and google Earth archieologist, I've found parts of the steel works in the valley that still exist, hidden mines etc, I now find the history of the town fascinating :o) Brilliant choice of music by the way :o), the music, plus the footage of the soldiers leaving for the war bought a tear or two to my eyes :o) I think the community should make a plaque to these men and put it at the site of the station, they gave their lives, it's little effort in return :o) I'm going to write to our mp and start and on-line campain me thinks :o)

Great video. I love seeing the way our ancestors lived in the town I was born. Sad seeing the train leave though.

Great upload Guss! Many thanks! It's hard to believe that's Consett, I just can't seem to picture Middle Street looking like that! Amazing footage of the troops boarding the train, but heartbreaking too in equal measure, especially considering many wouldn't be seeing home again.

There is a man called Guss by the lads Like ya Na"I US LOT?I HE is canny good with those video's good memories of our special town called Consett'' Our Town with its Giant Steelworks, that should never have closed''and probably one of the very first metal detecting clubs created in England.Great video GUSS.

im a southerner but my nan came from shotley bridge and used to speak about consett a lot, very sad to watch brought a tear to my eye, fantastic film thank you

+dozytwonk Shotley Bridge is a very beautiful village. You should go up and see it as well as Durham Cathedral/castle if you ever get time.

lol 'Cosy Cafe' now known as 'Scran Van'. But seriously, it is very sad to see all the local men going to war as when you think about how many returned they may as well have been on a train to Auschwitz.

Would be brilliant to see this footage in colour, like peter jackson has done with the GREAT WAR.
