Ignorance has alot to do with it. If people are uneducated of the past then those people are likely to repeat it. From my personal position, If my recent ancestors were slaves or was in the holocaust, I would never compare my struggles with the people who went through that hell. That would be flat out disrespectful

It's completely against MLK Jr's teachings. Question is why do the left claim to support MLK Jr if they have no intention of doing anything he asked of them? And how do you think MLK Jr would feel if he knew that ~30 million Black Americans have been Aborted by Democrat Choice since 1973? Yet the left will claim things like the cops take more, when they have taken maybe ~250 a year out of 10's of millions of interaction with the public in the same time. And it's about ~20 a year unarmed. Not the 600,000 - 1,000,000 Dems take by choice.

They believe that the oppression that was imposed 150 years ago butterflies out and affects themselves now (which might have a small amount of merit in a vacuum, but then so do situations like serfdom, the Arab and Barbary slave traces, etc), but they do not think that the actions of ancestors since then, nor of themselves personally, have a comparatively important or notable effect, so in their own logic, the only way to fix the issues is to, in a manner of speaking “rebalance the scales” in the present day.

I went to navy boot camp in the 80’s DEI was never a thing. We all took a test to aid in what area of military we were qualified to pursue. One of the first things all recruits were drilled on was all folks were reminded- no one was discriminated against due to color. We all went to secondary school after grueling bootcamp. Men’s bootcamp was more grueling than women’s for obvious reasons. Men are inherently stronger than women, and have better endurance. Thank God for those who volunteer. My daughter is in the Army at this time. President Reagan was our commander in chief- I felt very confident in his presidential leadership. Me and my friends who have children in the military- we are worried- Biden’s presidency has been so unsupportive of our military today- please pray for all our military- they are vulnerable by weak leadership. I have never heard of military not taking a test to prove leadership- this is insane.

The military when I was in 1996-2019 was diverse naturally. The military is a job A LOT of different people from different backgrounds find interesting and challenging. The problem is I saw it start to change rapidly near the end as to where the meritocracy once instilled was becoming dismantled to force "diversity" (code for less white men) onto us all and in every single position. It was ridiculous and has no place in a functioning military that wants to win wars.

My first experience ever with DEI was in 1981. I applied for a job at a department store in Flushing New York (Gertz). 4 of us were interviewed and told to stay because a decision would be made right away. I was the only white girl in the room. Soon after, I was called back into that office. I was told that I was most qualified. That I was most articulate, polished & would make an excellent addition to the team HOWEVER..... His hand were tied as his boss, after reviewing all of our information, informed him that they needed a black person in order to meet their quota. He actually told me this. Then he offered for ne to apply for another dept position. I told him no thank you and left extremely embarrassed. This may have been before DEI, but it was in practice all the way back then. I NEVER forgot that.

The *only* thing you should be judging people on at any point in time is the content of their character, or for employment purposes, their set of skills. If you start looking to physical characteristics to form your opinion of someone, you are in fact the problem. Your appearance has absolutely nothing to do with your ability to do a job. If you are qualified, you are qualified. Period.

Sadly, this has been going on in the military since at least the mid 80's. I took the ASVAB test in 1984 in preparation to joining the US Navy. I got a perfect score which qualified me for any rating in the Navy except for working in the nuclear propulsion field. I decided I wanted to be a Fire Control Tech, but was told there were no openings. After boot camp, I showed up for my first school. My roommate was there to become an FCT. I told him I was told there were no openings. He told me his recruiter directed him to say his last name, Martin, was pronounced Mar-Teen and that he was Hispanic. Apparently they had FCT openings for Hispanics but not for whites. Hence the reason I will not fly United. I cannot know if the pilot was the job because he/she is good or if they just fit a certain quota.

In the year 2000, I tried to apply for a hardship scholarship. I didn’t even complete the application process before I was told that I couldn’t even be considered bc I’m white. I will never forget that feeling of hopelessness after leaving the enrollment counselor’s office after being told that if I were a minority then she could get me enrolled immediately but since I’m not there wasn’t anything that she could do for me. The worst part was when I told friends, family, and teachers about this discrimination and then being informed about how I must honor this bc of past injustices that I had nothing to do with. They basically made me feel like I was the one in the wrong for even objecting.

I have had the same type of problem. I'm a conservative in California. My family are Democrats in Wisconsin. My family talks to me saying things like "you don't understand" or "let me explain to you what is really happening" like I'm ten years old. I'm 69. As to applying for a job. I'm lucky that I have retired and don't need to deal with getting a job. Well I guess I do need a job thanks to JB and the Democrats. Bad news for me being 69 in California I believe in God but my bi biggest offense I'm White. My edit: Remember you are not alone in what you think and believe. I feel like my vote doesn't count. That is true living in California where the Democrats have a super majority and don't need any Republican votes to pass what they want. Mid 80's I applied for a job where I knew people that worked there. I never heard officially from the company. Months later a friend who worked in the company H R Department told me they were instructed to receive all applications but due to the governments policy and to qualify for grant money the job opening would not be going to a white guy. Like you the people around me didn't care and would say that's how it is just except it and don't "you" cause any problems.

This is one of those topics where I really see the merits of both sides in moderation (which seems to be a very difficult concept for US politicians). It's very likely, as with many standardized tests, that they were initially developed to even the playing field. The anecdotal point about those who didn't take the exam and had successful careers is relatively moot when there's no measurable statistic to tell us if that success was at the expense of a better candidate that simply wasn't identified through the subjective means available prior to the exam's existence. That all said, doing well on an exam is also absolutely a hard-to-pinpoint combination of knowledge, access to that knowledge, and test-taking ability. It would additionally be ignorant to assume the ability to memorize facts for an exam equates directly to practical capability. Eliminating the exam doesn't seem to be the best option, but broadening the points of consideration for an applicant isn't a bad thing at all (regardless of the motivation).

Back in the 90s, I missed out on two excellent job opportunities because of affirmative action. I made it through the phone interview both times, and when I showed up for the in person interviews, suddenly, it was a problem. Both companies thought because of my last name that I was black. Both said they couldn't hire me at that time because they had to hire so many minorities and women. They said that I could apply again later. I didn't reapply because I didn't want to work for a race based company policy. That is my "white privilege" and affirmative action story. One of the companies went out of business, and the other is one of the largest employers in my state. I reject the concept of race based hiring. I own my home outright, my vehicles outright, but I will always be bitter that I was overlooked for someone less qualified because of my skin tone. Great video though.
