Concealed Layers: Uncovering Expressionist Paintings highlights the conservation process of several works in our collection, including Murnau with Locomotive by Vasily Kandinsky.
Courtney Books, exhibition co-curator and SLAM’s associate painting conservator, worked behind-the-scenes for five weeks freeing the dulled whites of Kandinsky’s paintings from grime. Through technical imaging and diligent retouching, Courtney successfully restored Kandinsky’s brilliant whites.
