About the Project:
Sunset City is a series based on the US state of Florida. Not just taking inspiration from the most iconic tourist destinations or glamorous beaches, Sunset City will focus on capturing the entire state from North to South. We will cover such cities as Miami, Tampa and Orlando, as well as some towns in between. Most importantly Florida's natural landscaping spanning from the tropical beaches to the vast wetlands of the Everglades.

Sandbox Microsystems reminds me of Sun Microsystems, which was a similar company founded in the 80s. Though Sun Microsystems was based in California, Sandbox could be this universe’s version it. Sandbox would be an important company, selling computers, computer parts, and even their own coding language (Sun Microsystems created Java). Also, it makes perfect sense why Sandbox would be working with a car company. As far back as the 60s, cars had computers in them. Though these computers didn’t drive the cars, they were still important and did stuff like cruise control, and sensors. The oil/fuel crisis in 1979 led to a big increase of computers in cars to control more efficient fuel usage.

Maybe you could have an abandoned, rusty old steam locomotive hidden somewhere in the swamps. It could be the "Seminole Steamer" or something. Just a bit of railroading backstory.

Ideas I had for stuff to add (I'm only at episode 17 so sorry if I repeat something you already have) 1) Night clubs and discos, I mean, it's miami in the 80s 2) a military base originally built during the 60s to protect the island 3) an old settlement of fisherman now abandoned built in the late 1800 in the swamps

I absolutely love it when you start something small and then insanity takes over and you demolish half a city and rebuild it completely. 😅Well done, looks bloody gorgeous! Also, how does one record a timelapse like yours during detailing? I mean the camera slightly moving while you build/add props? I'd love to improve my recording skills someday.

18:40 That moment you demolished a commercial district to build a freeway... you replicated something that happened a lot in North America. In particular the US, destroying a neighborhood to build a freeway. Nicely done! Side note; a little bit of head canon. By destroying that block, that's how the gang feud began. Between the gators and King Buns. Because King Buns had a restaurant that closed down. Not two weeks before the whole block started to be demolished. So now the gators really want to burn the house down. Both literally and figuratively.

Gangs you're talking about with the Sunset Riders. There actually was (apparently now defunct) a motorcycle gang in the Florida Keys and most of southern Florida. They were founded by Batistas, who fled Cuba when Castro took power. They actually got associated with the American Irish mob and were friendly with Whitey Bulger, and other key mob bosses in the United States, mostly for use in contract killings and drug trafficking. It's pretty dark stuff, but may work for your gang (given in the 80s they were actually pretty prominent, and fought with other Cuban, Haitian, Bahamanian, and Jamaican gangs from the Caribbean, but also Mafioso from Sicily, Irish gangs under the direction of Whitey, and the rival Irish gangs who opposed him, and street gangs who were either being controlled by or fighting with the larger ones, all quite prominent rivals).

I am a huge fan of World’s Fairs and Expos and Cities Skylines! It’s funny to think that a lot of people don’t think they exist anymore but they do! Thank you for creating one in your City. You are the first person to do so that I have found and it’s awesome! I think the one thing your EXPO is missing is your logo and Unique Permanent Icon kinda like Universal Exposition of 1889- Eiffel Tower Brussels World’s Fair (Expo 58) - Atomium Seattle Century 21 Exposition 1962 - Space Needle 1964/65 New York Worlds Fair - Unisphere / New York State Pavilion (My Personal Favorite) Montreal Worlds Fair 1967 - Biosphere Japan 1970 World EXPO - Tower of the Sun You need to have one so after the fair is gone it will be a lasting memory of what was there and how much it meant to the people that visited it! I look forward to seeing what you create!!!

you can indeed have a train track crossing right next to a road intersection by using the node controller. overcharged egg shows how in ilos with trams i believe. connect the tracks to the same node as the road intersection, then use the "offset" variable on the tracks to push them to the side of the road intersection

Well this was a cool video! Being a railfan myself, this episode was a wonder for me, with the rail spurs and old equipment. I love it As for a recommendation, I'm not exactly sure where or how you could do this, but I'd love to see you try to make a street running line! Basically a train track that goes down the middle of the street, some even go through neighborhoods! I was thinking that road along the water with the rail line beside it would possibly be a candidate. I'm sure there's other good spots though. Anyways, great video! I love seeing the progress being made.

Well the microchips in cars doesn't sound too farfetched as cars started getting their ECUs (Engine Control Units) in the late 80s. So Sandbox could have strated making these new ECUs that improved the cars to be more future proof and pave the path for other ECU manufacturers

Have you thought about making a Space Center somewhere in the outskirts of the map? We do have the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and since the Space Shuttle was introduced in the 1980s and launched out of the Kennedy Space center it might be fitting. And if you don't want to make an entire Space Center then what about adding a Shuttle transport atop a Boeing 747. The long haul transportation of the Shuttle atop a 747 was a spectacular event, and if you're planning on making an airport, you should at least add one of those. If nothing else, it fits the rocket theme of the world fair. Have a goog and check it out if you haven't seen it before

This is a fantastic build and the warehouse area fit perfectly. But I think what would be a good addition to Sunset City is an elevated metro line going from the University over the abandoned railway to downtown and then into the northern suburbs, like the Miami-Dade Metrorail shown at 19:40. It opened in May 1985 and back then was one line running from Dadeland South in Kendall township through downtown out to Okeechobee Road in Hialeah. So I would be really happy if you built one. Thanks! 😊😎

Point being that "Microchips in Cars" and "80s" isn't actually all that far-fetched at all.
