Everyone in Oz are going away from the ball and socket couplings. These are popular with off road campers where there is no bitumen. Crossing the chains makes it easy if it accidentally becomes uncoupled, doesn't drag on the road. Its nice to have some mod cons when camping, usually other four wheel drives have swags under a awning hanging off the four wheel drive for cover. Fire pits, cast iron camp pots and jaffle irons are in attendance in the camp.

Rotate the swinging jack the other way where the wheel is under the front of the camper. Also with the wheel on that jack, you can move the camper to help line up the hitch once you get close.

A lot of people commenting on the hitch seem to be forgetting that this is a purpose built trailer, for off road. Moab, mountains, trails, not KOA camping at the highway exit. If you camp like that and buy this trailer then you are like the people that buy a jeep with 40's on it then complain about the tire noise on the highway.

First video I have seen where someone shows hooking up to the trailer with that hitch and the precision it takes to line it up. As you explained not a lot of people will fully use the articulation hitch so different options would be nice. Look forward to the next video.

I use this style hitch on an overlanding trailer that was built from military trailer. It is easier to hitch it all together and then back truck to receiver slot. Much easier than trying to line the pin up perfectly.

  • @rodstephens6612

I had this type of articulating hitch on my offroad trailer that I pulled behind my Jeep in Australia. Absolutely loved it. I had seen too many accidents where trailers were disengaged due to the lack of articulation. Hookup was not a problem as the tongue weight was not so great that I could not bump the trailer 1/2" one way or the other to get aligned. Not sure how heavy the Black Series is, but that double wheel dolly should allow for a little wriggle room. As for the 14" long hitch. We have integrated ones (not bolt on) that are much shorter. If you are concerned about the swing-away dolly wheel limiting turning capacity, wind it all the way up and it won't stick forward so far.

Benefit of the wheeled manual jack is you can give it a nudge to help line up when hitching. Can't do that with the solid foot on most RV tongue jacks! However that flat foot would be more stable when setting up camp.

Great video. If you ever get tired of that truck. I would love to own it. I have dreamed of having a truck like that for as long as I can remember. I have fixed up old trucks and made them work for what I needed at the time . I did buy a close to new truck 35000 miles and it was stolen and totaled. I then had to get both wrists and elbows cleaned out and fixed. Now I just have a tired 1997 f150 xl 4x4 with 250000 miles and a tick in the motor and I have to have shoulder surgery. I can't get a break!!! .

You complain about the hitch but forget that in Australia where this camper is from vehicles are set up differently. There is nothing wrong with the adapter they sent you because it's attached exactly where your tow ball would screw on, just instead of a "ball" you have a U coupler, and it HAS to stick out those extra inches because of that additional axis in articulation. I would get creative with it a little and turn it into a bumper step for the back of the truck instead of just complaining that it "sticks out". BTW: You are paranoid about not having a tag on the trailer but then cover up the rear plate on the truck LOL

I still say the truck manufactures need to send you a off-road model of their trucks so that you properly test this black series trailer off road. I'm posting this during the pre-roll ads. I don't know what the tongue weight of this black series is, but I expect it might be pushing the payload limit on some off road trucks, like the Raptor and TRX, some of which have a payload less than 1000 pounds. Personally, I would like to see a Nissan Titan XD Pro4X.

Not a fan of relying in the hair pin to keep the main connecting pin retained on a flexing joint. I understand the theory and how cool it is off road. But using the same style hitch to haul agriculture equipment I've seen those pins work thier way up and out. (Seen lots of pins that have arms that secondarily latch those pins along with a hair pin from the top to prevent a pin from walking out.)Causing the load to be lost at slow speeds. Can't imagine what carnage would happen at speed. Still cool trailer though.
