Connect and lead, how we create community | Kathy Coffey | TEDxSnoIsleLibraries
How can we build community? Where do we begin? Kathy Coffey, executive director of Leadership Snohomish County, has found community in places as conventional as a church and as unorthodox as a mafia bar. She leverages her experiences of profound loss at an early age to illustrate how we must all decide if we will choose to search for and cultivate a vibrant and connected community. Coffey calls us to work to change how we all think about, build, and live in communities that are deeply connected and fulfilling. Kathy’s a respected local leader. She serves as a member of Lynnwood’s Human Services Commission. She’s a South Everett-Mukilteo Rotarian and board member of Leadership Launch.
Prior to joining LSC in 2014, Kathy spent 16 years in higher education. She was Assistant Director of Edmonds Community College Foundation and Development Relations Coordinator at Bastyr University. She was also co- owner of Pivot Edmonds, a community magazine, marketplace, and community engagement site. Kathy is the proud mom of two sons, Ethan and Parker, who bring her great joy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Truly heart felt. As an introvert who wants to find my purpose in this world using my passion, this is what I needed to hear. Thank you so much.

Giving a speech in this stage is being my purpose.
So glad I found this! Praying for how to create a small community in this big old world we get lost in. I think I found my purpose if I can just have her courage to start.
Deep reflection.. becoming part of something bigger than me....connecting with others. Thank you Kathy

I had the idea of having a social connection between a lot of people (which is the hardest grind) and we create a fund raiser to buy out land to use as grounds for our community. Since we are using fund raiser money, it counts as charity funds which will not be taxed. That’s means, our money is our money. Of course anyone that pays on their end will be listed down as a member of the community for as much as the current capacity can contain (also a grind when you have to go through and count all initial hundreds of members) We form our own ideologies and thrive on our own terms. Imagine a mini version of a state within a state. That’s pretty much what it would form. We already successfully did this in Ohio successfully having nearly full influence on what goes on in the state. Now we are beginning to work in Colorado, and Maine for expansions. And adverse benefit with all this influence is that we can ensure that our governors in respected states don’t over step on our rights. Kinda important now with the current ordeal going down in Texas, acting as a fine example. Those 25 states united in support nearly over night for a reason
