Hi Daniel, what are the pre-requisites for transferring a website and domain from private provider to aws lightsail?

Does it matter if I have DNS records still on the Domain Name holder (ventra, fatcow, etc...) or should I delete those? Or should I keep the Domain records on the domain holder and change the IP in those records to the new static lightsail ip?

Hi man if we create a zone like this instead of just adding the A record on the domain registrar, will the IP get redirected to the domain? If we just add the A record to the registrar it won't redirect.

Hi, I do see you added both @ & www with an A record, is this correct or does www need to be a cname record?

Hi Camilo, thanks for watching :) Either will work but you could also set a cname record as www pointing to the value of the aname. Hope this helps :)

@@kmilovalle You should be ok to just use 2 A records with the root(@) and WWW. I wouldn't think the Cname record would be necessary but if your having trouble connecting with WWW it might be worth trying it. Normally Cname can only be pointed to a domain not an IP which is why it would be needed to point to the Aname if you did use it. It is a bit redundant though because if the Aname isn't right it likely wont work.

Didn't work. I registered a domain with google domains. When I go to the domain, the browser automatically defaults to https (even if I enter http) and blocks me from viewing the website because it's "not secure"

@@danielotto It wasn't a security issue, I had not installed an ssl certificate and didn't intend to. I spent a whole day combing through every configuration file on the server, messing with dns zones and firewalls and routes to try to force http. Then I found out that it had nothing to do with my set up. I bought a ".dev" domain name, and apparently google owns that TLD and have made https required on all .dev domains
