Really nice playing Jake. A friend recently gave me a Yamaha YAS-21. I'm getting back to playing sax because I just have to. Man! That horn sounds great! In listening to the comparisons, you sound like...you. There's a very slight difference in tone between the two but your sound comes through. Good stuff, man. Thanks for sharing your skills.

Allen Cook the fact that a saxophonist sounds like themselves was the underlying point I was trying to make. Every sax has their pros and Conns (bad pun intended), but they ultimately won't change one's sonic concept that much. That said, I just can't get over these student Yamahas. If you buy them used, they're one of the best bangs for your buck out there.

You hit the nail on the head--it's the player behind the Sax that makes the difference. If a player wants to change their sound, they should change the music they're listening to get the concept of sound they're after in their head. I'm not saying that a junk Sax is okay--we all know they're not. But for someone who really knows how to play, they're going to sound great regardless of the sax they're on. I've played around with Saxophones at the local shop, my teacher's Sax, my friend's sax, my sax, etc.. On all of those with my mp/reed, my core sound was virtually identical. There were a few minor differences, but very minor. The MP/reed will have more an impact on our sound than the Sax itself does. It's really, really hard to beat a Vito Yamaha Sax--I own 1 that my wife got me a few years back (made in Japan), got it serviced and fell in love with it. Pair it up with a good MP and you're set for many years to come :)

Neil Rodrigo Acosta This was a Phil Barone NY 7*. It's a very close copy of an old Meyer. Modern Link STM's and Yamaha 4C's (of all things) work well with both horns.

You're playing rough, blowing too hard. But this is nonsense. Con of course won. The difference is big. The sound of "Yamaha" is like the movement of a woman in a skirt. The "Conn" sound is clear, it stands, I'm loving it. The Yamaha sound is like burnt scrambled eggs. The Conn sound is more pleasant, you can listen to it for a long time. I think silver yamaha + beechler sounds good, but it won't be able to play old music. Conn is for old music, there he is the king. Such a subjective opinion.
