Days after the civil unrest in Baltimore after the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody in April 2015, Congressman Elijah Cummings came to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health as part of the #EngageBaltimore event. His fiery 45-minute speech was a passionate monologue from a man born and raised in Baltimore, and who had seen parts of his city burning just days before.
