Conga Rhythm for Salsa Dancers!

The Congas are one of the key instruments in Salsa music as well as various other music genres. The rhythm is based on a consistent 8th note pattern, which for dancers introduces the &(+) counts in between the 8 numbers. Often spoken about among dancers and within dance circles, are two key sounds within the Conga rhythm: the "slap" (2, 6) and the "open tones" (4, 4+, 8, 8+). Keep in mind that the conga player will play variations of this rhythm depending on the song, section of the music etc. and therefore you will hear a range of variations in different salsa recordings.
This video is designed to help Salsa dancers develop their timing and understanding of the Congas, and how it relates to some of the basic steps in Salsa.
