Thank you Emma, you feel the pulse of foreign students very well, another excellent video. Say-said-said: to express something using words. Tell-told-told: to give information to a person. When you use tell you must have a person following the verb. Speak-spoke-spoken & talk-talked-talked are synonyms, you can use either, BUT pay attention to 3:58!

In Portuguese(Brazillian) these words, sometimes, have the same translation and students usually get very confused when learning and applying them in a conversation or exercise. So I'm trying to give them a different approach and yours fits perfectly to what I intend to do. Congrats and best regards from Brazil =D

Another useful video. It's so nice for me to watch and listen to you. Despite being simple at first sight, these 4 verbs might pose some problems, especially SAY and TELL. As you know, there are plenty of collocations with both of them, for instance TELL THE TRUTH, not say ... or SAY HELLO, not tell ... etc. These collocations may be confusing a little; fortunately they might be learnt by heart easily.... EMMMMMMA, PERFECT JOB AGAIN!!!

I'll share what have been taught to me: Watch- when you're looking at something moving or with motion. e.g. *I am watching TV (there's motion at what you're looking at) at this moment. See- it's your capability to see something because you have eyes, but it doesn't pertain any attention. e.g. I can see you. (Because I have the sense of sight) 🤷‍♀️ Look- is seeing or watching something but this time, with attention or focus. e.g. I am looking at you. (My attention or focus is on you)

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for sharing these immensely helpful videos. You have a magical power to captivate your listeners which makes learning so interesting. Could you please throw some light on the difference between "onward / onwards /afterward /afterwards", "can / could / should" "prohibited / forbidden" There are number of ambiguous words and I keep confusing with their spelling as well as the fine line difference between two very close words. It would be really helpful if you can come up with any method to retain the words in brains as it gets hard to use a word appropriately even if you have an broad idea about the meaning of the word.(If you come across the word while reading or listening then you can figure out the meaning but that does not apply while writing)

Thank you so much for your lessons. I don't have the chance to speak or even listen to native English people. And I'm glad I found your channel. 👍🏾👍🏾

hi emma, a lot of latin American students in Australia would like to learn vocabulary in context from you, I was talking with some students and we were talking that if you make some videos of conversations with phrasal verbs or whatever with lyrics and mix it with imitation technic, that would be wounderful... is just a point that yours followers want. we could learn new vocabulary with australian acent and improve our confident with imitation technic. and ( sorry if I wrote wrong ) by the way ... this is such a good video.

Decades ago, my boss at Cathay Pacific Airways in Hong Kong took time teach me the differences between the words: tell and ask because these two words had to be used correctly on the phone to avoid any complaints from the tourists. Thank you!

Such a good English teacher. I wish I had had a teacher like Emma when I studied English in high school. But our teacher was an old woman who was so strict and severe. We called her "God's dandelion" because of her short, wavy and grey hair. But on the whole, she was a good teacher and I managed to learn a lot at her lessons.
