"Confrontation" Jekyll & Hyde Animatic
Фильм және анимация
This is an animatic created for a favorite broadway song of mine.
This animatic reimagines the song if it were to be produced as an animated film.
If you're interested in seeing the character designs I made, you can see them at savannahlogsdon.weebly.com/cha...
This is a school project and in no way am I making profit off of this song.

The animatic is ok but the best part, by FAR, is the camera spinning around him switching back and forth "I'll live inside you forever!" "No!!"
I have to admit after hearing Anthony Warlow sing this song... no other version is good enough.

I love how he transforms from Jekyll to Hyde again as he fought himself. It really speaks out his internal war as the viewer sees it from the outside. One man, two sides, battling for control.

"Callie Cature you are so right about that. It's one of the many reasons I enjoy Dr.Jekull and Mr.Hyde for it is the ultimate battle between good and evil ." While Edward Hyde is evil (since he has no sense of morality or ethics), I am not so sure that Henry Jekyll is "good". As mentioned in the original novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, Jekyll has been trying to repress evil urges and secret vices for his entire lifetime. Hyde is the personification of everything that "respectable" Jekyll had kept hidden and suppressed.
@thomasraines1396

Callie Cature Hyde isn’t another man he is simply a personification of what Dr Jekyll wishes he could do . Hyde is a mask for Jekyll to do what he secretly wants to do but is afraid of losing his place in society
I love it, most other animatics of this song make Jekyll look way too young and Hyde far too attractive
@adrisrnska1699

Well actually Hyde looks completely different than this. He is supposed to be younger and smaller than Jekyll, but not attractive. Some descriptions say Hyde is deformed, but it's not true. In the book his physical appearance is completely human yet still terrifying, but no one can tell why. I thing the best description can be find on website called CliffsNotes.com. I don't want to be rude but it's one of my favourite books and most people make Hyde look.....weird.

Yes, I know Hyde was almost a dwarf with a "sense of deformity" about him, what I meant was most other animatics make him look like the kind of character teenage girls lubricate their hairbrushes with.

"love it, most other animatics of this song make Jekyll look way too young and Hyde far too attractive" In the novel, Jekyll is in his 50s, but Hyde looks younger than him. And Hyde is shorter than Jekyll, and looks like a dwarf. According to his description: "Mr. Hyde was pale and dwarfish, he gave an impression of deformity without any nameable malformation, he had a displeasing smile, he had borne himself to the lawyer with a sort of murderous mixture of timidity and boldness, and he spoke with a husky, whispering and somewhat broken voice"

The original cut of "The Black Cauldron" was given an R-rating actually, they cut out some of the more violent scenes and managed to get a PG-13 rating, so if we use extreme technicalities it's not the first adult Disney movie. Also, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, despite sanitizing the original book a bit so it could be market towards children, was still arguably a very dark film with themes that would resonate more with adults than children, it's possible to make a film mature without making it adult only if you know what you're doing. I could see Jekyll and Hyde working if they cut out a few of the more risky songs like Bring On The Men and made most of the murders shown indirectly like just showing the little girl shadow get surrounded and absorbed by Hyde's shadow. Remember that Disney ultimately has built up a reputation as a family company and has never had any intention of changing that, they would never go for an R-rating if they could help it, most they'd ever do was PG-13.
we all want to see this fully animated!
An animated gothic horror musical. That sounds amazing actually.

This is a damn sight better than the r/cuteanimeboys animatic that always pops up at the top of this search. It's a unique style with incredibly expressive charcter designs, creative motion, and some really cool ideas all throughout. I'd honestly love to see this animated fully. If I had the time and didn't have a billion other projects I've already promised myself I'd finish, I'd honestly try to learn animation purely to make this happen myself! That's how badly I want to see this! Good job, all around, just great work!

+Sheer Malarkey Good eye! You're totally right. This is the first time I've done a musical animatic. Since Disney's got the pros for that sort of thing, I tried to see how they built and resolved tension in their numbers with poses and composition. So that's why I borrowed few shots from those.

Who sings this? They're amazing. Someone pleeeeease tell me!
Okay, did anyone else notice that the last shot of the video is basically the end of Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame? They are even in the shape of a cross when they fall to the ground. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing though as I still think that the animatic itself is very well done, and even if the creator borrowed some scenes to make it their own that doesn't tarnish the effort that went into this. Hell, it could be all original and I could be wrong but, still...I do find it interesting.

You're spot on, great catch! One of the things I learned as an animator is to look for and borrow from the masters (Even disney does this...for the Beast's transformation, Keane borrowed from paintings of the great masters...for a lot of the poses and gestures made in Hunchback, artists referenced poses and gestures made in catholic painting). Because that's how you learn about not only shot composition, but how to build tension in your own work, so that's definitely a direct reference I made!
