Confidence, Opportunity, & Capacity Will Shape an Impactful Life: David Baker at TEDxNashville

Ойын-сауық

When in one of those reflective moments as you move through life, you'll look back and wonder how you could have made a bigger difference. Some people build that on an innate confidence. The rest have to make careful choices around opportunity and capacity or they'll cry like a baby when they look back.
David speaks 30-35x/yr worldwide, has analyzed 700+ marketing service firms, has worked in 28 countries, and his work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Fast Company, Inc. Magazine, Forbes, CBS Business Network, MarketingProfs, BusinessWeek, and about a dozen books others have written. His second book (of four) was just named by Inc. Magazine as one of the Top 10 Books Entrepreneurs Should Read.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I'm here from a post on LinkedIn. Wish I had seen this 9 years ago. Great presentation, DCB! "You gather opportunity by saying yes. You gather expertise by saying no. The reason you are afraid of saying no is you are afraid you will run out of opportunity."

I think this is the most important TED talk I've ever viewed. It feels like you are speaking directly to me. I've always been a "next shiny object" seeker, but I'm finally at the place in my life where I am focusing on doing things that make a difference, rather than just doing things because they are interesting. Thank you for this inspiration. I'm going to watch your talk every day

Very true. Opportunity is endless. Focusing and choosing by eliminating choices; Saying no to what is easy and choosing yes to the monotonous and routine is not common. However, I completely agree that those that make little impact in this world are those that spread themselves thin; Those that try to know a little bit of everything rather than know allot about a little. It's difficult to admit these flaws within myself. It's easy to disagree and pretend to br something I'm not. Great presentation with great content.

oh, he points out such a good point here. First when I have just graduated, I am always afraid that I couldn't find good opportunities so I say yes to most random things. Recently, when I started my business, I am also afraid of saying no because I thought good opportunities are rare and they won't come again, but after a while I realize how wrong I am. Opportunities come constantly because I am good at my job. But, unfortunately, I don't focus hard enough to level up my product and marketing strategy to push my rate, now I truly understand his words. If you are good, opportunities will obviously come. The point here is you must have courage to say "No"
