A little more history for you on the parachute jump. It was originally constructed in Flushing Meadows Park for the 1939 Worlds Fair. The sponsor was Lifesavers candy. Moved to Coney after the Fair closed.

I was born and raised in the south Bronx and have been to Coney Island a couple of times my boyfriend our friend and I were going to the beach at night and it’s amazing we stood there till 4AM during the 4th of July and it was an amazing time. Me and my boyfriend are going back this summer

Being from Philadelphia I used to go to New Jersey every summer but I've always wanted to go to Coney Island which is the original. What confused me at first is when I looked up the age of the boardwalks, Atlantic City and Wildwood boardwalks are actually older then the Coney Island Boardwalk but when I looked into it a little deeper Coney Island had their Amusements much longer than they had a boardwalk. So basically the Jersey boardwalks are the oldest but the Coney Island attractions are older than the Jersey attractions and at one time Coney Island was the largest Seaside attraction in the United States.

i’m gonna be moving to nyc for college in a little over 2 months. i’m definitely gonna visit this place

@@mariaager1924 hot dogs don't go well with sugar syrups in my opinion. Mustard, relish, onions, hot peppers, etc. are the traditional toppings where I'm from

Came here in for 4th July weekend in 2002, did Shoot the Freak, the amusements (a real eye opener) and a simulator ride. Beach was absolutely crazily packed solid. Would love to go back at a less busy time.

I’ve walked into stores and have gone to Brighton beach and it is so true what you say.

Love the beach and artwork and the theater food market!!

If you visit Brighton Beach, try Chebureki and Belyashi, most are made with pork but you can find them w/beef too.

I might go there Sunday!

I went there before I’m going there again with my family is a really fun place I love the big roller coaster

You do need a saltwater fishing license it's a free add-on with purchase of freshwater license saltwater fishing is open up year round but double check what fish in season

Anybody remembers Coney Island circa 1958? If you do, let’s compare notes. I see Nathan’s still there, though. Not as many rides as back then. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

Never got there when I was in the city, the day I planned to go, the weather people on TV said stay away from the coast as a Hurricane was passing by the East Coast. 😯

In the 70's and 80's, lots of mobsters were found dead near Tatiannas in brighton beach. The russian mob was/is very active there.But, brighton beach remains a favorite neighborhood of mine. It encompasses the whole soviet union, which included Hungary where my mom is from,Turkey and many of the stans, which is why there is so much diverse food and culture there.. Love it there.

Forgot to mention that Coney Island was the birthplace of the amusement park, with Steeplechase Park. It set the model for others to follow by closing off a perimeter and filling the space with all sorts of attractions, including that parachute jump tower ....

Wrong as actually Blackpool Pleasure Beach amusements in the UK was founded in 1896. One year before Steeplechase amusement park opened in Coney Island USA. In any case there's other amusement parks worldwide that were open before either of those two famous ones 🎢🎡🎠

Are the waves ever large enough there to surf or Boogie Board?

I really enjoyed this vlog, I thought Nico Bellic was shouting at you at the beginning lol. Coney Island area is quite reminiscent of some of the seaside resorts near where I live, places like Blackpool and Southport. Does it take a long time to get to Coney Island from Williamsburg?

I have been watching a lot of the videos of Coney Island when it first started and up to the Fifties maybe, and compared to it Blackpool and Southport seem like poor relations when you study it properly. Even in Blackpool's heyday (which was the Twenties to Fifties maybe) it didn't seem to have what Coney Island had. But there again that is America for you , everything is bigger and better.

As far as the hot dogs, try a $ 2- WURST in a pastry, at the outside stand of the "EXQUISITE" - (formerly "Best Buy"), store.

I miss the beach so much!

I just went there today and I stumbled upon this video ._.

The time to visit Coney Island is on the 4th of July, during the Nathan's famous Hot Dog Eating contest...there is nothing like it!!!!!a great tradition, very festive....ESPN covers it on the same day, there is a Canadian progressive rock band that plays at the entrance of the subway every year I attended. NBA star Stephon Marbury, a coney island native, came one time and gave out free sneakers. This is an excellent prelude to this holiday, ending it with the fireworks someplace else.

4th of july is the worse time of year to come, half of the visitors are tourists. Also cellular reception i found to be much worse during that day on the two times i went for the fireworks at 4th of July to name a few

@@bl00dkillz it's like Times Square on New Year's Eve...festive and sorrounded by NYPD Blue, you will not get harassed on this day by a homeless guy or any other that's for sure...just make sure to head back to the city before it gets dark so you can catch the firework displays by the harbor....this event is bucketlist worthy💥

You would think as a guide- it’s not just about personal preference. The Aquarium is iconic- the only one in NYC. And the shark exhibit is new & excellent.

Manie Khamsihong it is absolutely safe. Just always still be aware of your surroundings. But yes crime rates in the amusement district and Brighton Beach Ave are not that high.

Its pretty safe in Brighton beach/coney island tho you might have to exercise a bit of caution if you go northwest of coney island neighborhood since it has its rough parts
