A lot of well-done stop-motion has aged remarkably well, since you get all the right lighting (if you did it right in the first place) "for free" as it were. Whereas so much CGI just struggles so hard to deal with lighting and texture. Practical effects are beautiful.

@@jadefalcon001 Yep. In case of stop motion only the motion is "wrong". Everything else - lighting, texture, shape details are right. In case of old/bad CGI it's the opposite.

Stop-motion reached a high-point back in the 90s before it was pretty much replaced by CGI. Good stop-motion still beats crappy CGI, by a mile.

FINALLY, something original and no reboots. Although it was based on a classic skit of Saturday Night Live and had a cartoon version, I prefer this over any Star Trek or Star Wars movie. Plus the Coneheads weren't long to watch.

A well done stop motion is ageless :D if you do it right enough nothing can beat it.

I love how at the end the audience sounds kind of disappointed and nobody thinks it's awesome.

There should have been a sequel to this movie like some conehead was watching a TV signal from earth and saw a commercial of his driving school and realized he was alive.

I loved the irony of seeing Kirk battling the Gorn in "Arena" at the beginning of the movie, then seeing Beldar defeating the Garthog at the end.

Ida used the same methods against that critter. The ole stand-by delaying eye poke then the round stone drive deep into the throat choking: classic old school Garthok offensive tactics. Good job 👍

I know not this "fighting" of the garthok of which you speak. I only know of narfling the garthok. But honestly, the garthok kind of reminded me of both Ed-209 from robocop, and the pinky demons from doom. Or maybe the similar looking monsters from duke nukem 3d.

scientifically speaking, Aliens should exist, its unfortunate that we can only observe a very limited space of the Universe. Religiously speaking, there should be other species on other planets, since God is almighty in power. why would God only focused on just 1 planet when there are so many more out there Billions more. If we are the Alpha, then there should also exist Beta, Gamma, Delta...etc awaiting for our conquest. Logically speaking, if there is life on 1 planet out of Trillions, there should be another planet with life out of trillions more.

Well of course aliens exist, the question is how close are the nearest ones. It is not very important whether they exist or not if the nearest ones are 10^70 light years away for instance. But Ackroyd doesn't just believe in aliens, but a whole kitchen sink of paranormal nonsense.

Did you ever see the cartoon that was made first? It's the exact same plot, just abridged.

This movie is such a hidden gem!! Saw it in the theater (nobody there!?) Media reviews knocked it down, without seeing that the movie has a heart!. I hope people can see it without being influenced by this! They fleshed out real characters (with backstories!) from a simple SNL skit.CHECK IT OUT!!

I never even saw the original SNL skits, and in my opinion, this movie stands on its own! Sure its very of-its-time, but its that balance between funny and weird that still holds up~

Critics may think this scene is unbelievable and lame, but remember that Beldar proved to be very smart with excellent precision on earth. So it makes sense that he knew the exact swing to get the ball into the garthog's throat to choke him.

Still better than today's graphics

Used to be an SNL skit in the 90’s. They got so popular they made it into a full length movie.

Beware the Jabberwock, my son, The jaws that bite, the claws that catch, Beware the Jubjub Bird, and shun The Frumius Bandersnatch. And DON'T fight the Garthok; Nargle it.

This movie has its moments, but overall it wasn’t very good. And the effects in this scene were dated in ‘93! Stop motion?! Jurassic Park came out in 93!

Still looks great today... something people dont realize is that Jurassic Park was originally going to be done in stop motion, theres even test footage of Raptors being animated for the movie.
