    As a continual learner.... I have tried to find videos for conducting that show the use of the left hand. I'm sure you'll get there. When you do, or maybe even along the way, it would be helpful to see your hands from your point of view, as if the camera were your eyes or on top of your head.

    ​@cerberusone1 The issue with having the left hand mirror the right is that you're providing no new information to the ensemble, as you're just copying what your right hand does. Instead try and focus on using the left hand for demonstrating expression and phrasing, as well as dynamics. A great conductor once said to one of his students that was struggling with mirrored hand movements that 'he could have left half of himself at home!'.

    Thank you. I have been saying that for years. The actual beats hit at the same spot. Those drawings in the texts books have it wrong.

    @@cerberusone1 I actually had to stop a rehearsal a few years ago becasue a disgruntled violinst kept saying my "one" was not on the down beat but on the up beat. I told him that if he was playing the down beat on the up beat, he was a half a beat behind. He got fired later in the season.
