Really love this as I'm getting really into textures now and wanting to really experiment with some wedding cake designs. How would you continue that down the side? Just keep placing more pieces on?
@floreacakes

Thank you so much! Yes, just continue placing pieces on the cake

Hi Sonia! Thank you for taking time to watch!
You are just a delight! I feel like my close girlfriend is giving me instruction. Thank you for letting us know your thought process and design principles behind your decisions- so very helpful! On the beautiful finished 3-tier cake you showed us, did you use silver leaf to obtain the shiney silver? I'm going to have to get more make up brushes just so I can say, "flaffy brash"! My fav!

Thank you, Karen. I'm your internet girlfriend 😊 I love sharing my thoughts and hearing for you! Yes, I did use a tiny pieces of silver leaf and I think it really brought the design together. English is a very difficult language to learn and I've started only 5 years ago, so I still can't hear the difference)))))

Astashkina Cakes You speak better than some who have spoken English their whole life😂. Please don’t change “flaffy brash”- it’s a lot more fun to say your way!!
Finally got around to trying this for the first time today! Initially I didn't like mine, but once I added some more sanding sugar and edible glitter, I think it came together a bit more, and actually I'm quite happy with it now for a first attempt! I notice in this video, you often cut the fondant pieces to fit the top of the cake, but if you were doing the sides as well, would you still do that? Or would you let the fondant drape over the edge and down the side? I ended up having to join quite a few pieces together, and I think I was a bit unhappy with having lots of seams.

That's amazing! I'm glad you gave it a go. To cover my cakes, I make a piece for the top first and then panel the sides. I don't like to drape, because it make the pattern distorted. And another suggestion, to make it look cohesive, even if you have a lot of seems - make sure your fondant is the same thickness. I use spacers for my rolling pin when creating this technique. Hope this helps!

@@floreacakes thank you, so would you recommend rolling one long piece to wrap all the way around the sides, or do you put that on piece by piece, like the top?

New subscriber here, AWESOME tutorial!! Question, do you leave the fondant on when serving? I would image it would be even more dry?

Hi Anna, do we need to cover the cake with a layer of white fondant first before adding the marbled scraps or do we directly apply the scraps onto a ganached cake? thanks!
@floreacakes
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Ganache is perfect for this application! No need to cover in fondant prior to applying this texture.
Do you do geode cakes too? If yes would you be teaching it from scratch?
I will try for my son first communion cake
