Concrete Sealer Showdown: Acrylic vs. Penetrating Sealers

Ойын-сауық

Welcome back to The Concrete Edge on Deco Crete TV! In today's episode, Jeff takes us through the important differences between film forming and penetrating sealers for concrete. Whether you're a seasoned professional or a DIY enthusiast, understanding these two types of sealers can make a huge difference in your project outcomes.
First, we’ll break down the characteristics of acrylic or film forming sealers, which sit on top of the concrete and create a protective film. We’ll discuss the advantages of solvent-based vs. water-based options, their application, and why they’re ideal for decorative concrete like stamped patios.
Next, we'll dive into penetrating sealers, which soak into the concrete’s pores to provide long-lasting protection without changing the surface appearance. These are perfect for driveways, sidewalks, and other exterior concrete surfaces where maintaining the natural look is key.
We'll also introduce a hybrid option that combines the benefits of both film forming and penetrating sealers, offering the best of both worlds.
By the end of this episode, you’ll have a clear understanding of when to use each type of sealer and how to choose the best one for your specific needs. Stay tuned and learn how to protect and enhance your concrete surfaces like a pro!

Thank you so much for your videos. Always learn something. Can you please touch more on using acrylic sealers as a curing compound? Just roll on next day? Haven't heard much about that. Thanks again!

You are welcome! Thanks for the comment! When using acrylic sealer as a curing compound, you would normally spray it on the same day as pouring. The general practice would be to finish the concrete, pull the forms, clean up, and then spray the cure as the last thing before you leave the job site. This is mostly for broomed or smooth finished concrete. Stamped concrete is little different, most stamped concrete never gets cured like this, it just gets sealed after a week or two. I'll leave a link to our Curing vs Sealing video below. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJNkx6usl8qYoMY.html
