@@Cmdr_DarkNite MTX are tolerable (still not great) for cosmetics. It's really about post-launch content. And unless you're making hand over fist with MTX, that content is going to get worse if you're not making money. Take Avengers for instance. Yes it wasn't FTP, but if the base game sold better, along with MTX (cosmetics), they likely wouldn't been able to keep up making expansions (Wakanda) and stories for each character. Instead, BOTH of those got dropped in favour of plopping in characters as is, because the money wasn't there to do more. This game might not have that sort of content shift, because it's funded by Playstation, but most publishers don't have a console they have to sell so there's less incentive to keep it going.

I mean, it likely took them 4-5 years to make. Kinda hard to hit a trend with development that long. But all the more reason NOT to chase a trend when you game will take that long. If you can make something in 2, you'll have better luck.
