Concert d'Ahmad Jamal - Piano Jazz Sessions

________________________________________________________________________
Ahmad Jamal comes from the closely-knit club of the great masters of jazz. That is why, in the manner of Coltrane and Miles, he goes back to his past as a way to overcome it. This is the case here, with a duo and a few quartet pieces - with Herlin Riley (drums), James Cammack (double bass) & Manolo Badrena (percussion) - but above all a collection of several solo pieces. The music is art in its purest form, ranging from the iconic “Poinciana” to the symbolic “Marseille”. Ballades is a new masterpiece in this artist’s long and distinguished career.

I have been a fan of Ahmad Jamal from the time I first heard his recordings in the early 1960's. I had the great pleasure of seeing him live in 1994. He was kind enough to chat with me between sets and autograph an LP jacket. A thoughtful gentleman as well a supreme artist. We all miss him.

Très grand pianiste un poète
Merci, FLV, for bringing this giant on to your stage, and for recording the performance for all of us to enjoy, many years later.
Organic music that comes from the depths of the soul, a soul of light.

Enjoy Bro, is never to late, like silky velvet & the companionship 😮is a perfect ride to heaven, memories just pop up 🎉 I have just a few years living in Better and more complex Reality 😊 thanks to some one amazing that I have ever meet ( 🙏 my friend RIP )
Ahmad Jamal (and company), thank you for all the great music...
This must have been one of his last live performances, and he probably knew that it was his Farewell to Paris, a City on where he played so many times and recorded often. This particular Group played with him since the 80's , when they recorded the album "Rossiter Road" in 1985. The Tunes: 1- Marseille (AJ) 2- Invitation (Kaper) 3- I Love You (Porter) 4- Tranquility (AJ) 5- Laura (Raskin) 6- Poinciana (Simon) 7- ? 8- Like Someone In Love (Van Heusen)

The best tunes for a snowy January day as I try to calm down and take my mind off what's happening in Gaza! AJ, you have passed, but still live on through your beautiful music. And for some strange reason, if you were still with us, I have a feeling you'd have something to say about Palestine too!

@@steveegallo3384 It is possible to disagree with somebody without resorting to personal insults. Alas, that seems to be a vanishing trait these days, especially with people like yourself. It's true, I don't know what AJ would have thought about Gaza, but I suspect that someone as humane and decent as he was would have taken the side of justice and humanity. That, my friend, is an example of an argument, not a stream of ad hominem invective like you specialize in. Feel free to look up any of those terms if needed.
@steveegallo3384

@@whitemughal2 -- I'm sorry that my comment occasioned your displeasure. But in my defense, you confuse Reasoned Discourse with Ad Hominem Invective. With all due respect to your sophomoric knowledge of classical Latin, you should err on the side of Self-Criticism and ponder, "What possible connexion might exist, in this august forum, between the Music and your unfocused wayward political maunderings?
@whitemughal2

@@steveegallo3384 OK you have a strong command of the English language (or a good dictionary/thesaurus) but I did use the Latin term correctly. "Pace" your claims, advising me to "stop cutting my prozacs in half" hardly rises to the level of "reasoned discourse." And while you might take issue with my comments, it's not fair to characterize them as "unfocused wayward political maunderings." Lots of people on this august forum add their personal reflections on pieces of music and artists they like. It's been quite a while since I've seen that word "maunderings" used, so kudos for that anyway. BTW, reading between the lines, I'm assuming (wrongly I hope) that you support Israel's genocide in Gaza? Asking for a friend.
@steveegallo3384
3 ай бұрын
@@whitemughal2 -- I meant to say "prolix maunderings." That said, I concede. As for Gaza, are you claiming to have a friend? Whatever. I agree with the following comment: 'Regarding: “I Am Gaza City’s Mayor. Our Lives and Culture Are in Rubble,” by Yahya R. Sarraj (Opinion guest essay, NY Times, Dec. 24): "Mr. Sarraj, I feel sad reading your piece. I’m particularly mourning the loss of your eldest son and the destruction of those parts of Gaza that have inspired you throughout your life. These terrible events are caused by war. "The people of Gaza celebrated the beginning of this war. Did they not know what would follow? And did you also not know? And did you not know that Hamas’s stated goal is to destroy the state of Israel? And did you not know that if Hamas acted on this goal it would bring war on Gaza? And yet in spite of knowing all this, you mention none of it in your article. Instead you suggest that Palestinians want to live in peace with their neighbors. But three quarters of Palestinians favored the Hamas invasion of Israel. Is this your idea of peace? "Did you not know that Hamas has built hundreds of miles of tunnels under your homes, hospitals and schools? And yet you wonder why Israel is bombing them. If you are interested in peace, don’t you think a good starting place would be an honest description of what has happened between Israel and Gaza and not to pretend that Gaza is an innocent victim of indiscriminate military aggression?" [As you know, I'm in Mexico....Where are you?]

I am not sure what you are saying here, Google Translate may not be giving your statement any justice. I just wanted to reach my hand across the planet and shake yours in a symbol of shared humanity. We all have soul and its tinsel is tested through suffering and healed by compassion. All music has greatness, just some idioms have a resonance that is a vibrational zeitgeist. Blessings, Fellow Traveler.
Laura.....I love you !!!
Vivement demain ...
