I'm a Westerner who loves to listen to Indian music since my childhood exposure to Ashe Bhosle & Lata Mangeshkar. I've always wanted to learn how to sing Karnātaka Sangītam...but I was too intimidated to ask around if anyone taught this locally near, my hometown on Long Island, NY. Am very happy to find you online! Will be starting beginner exercises to develop my singing voice. I love how you clearly explain things. Am not so intimidated anymore! Good teacher...Thank You! Namaste🙏💖

No doubt my teacher is worth a gem.
Wow, love your classes! They are knowledgeable and inspirational !
The way the videos are edited making them visually captive is so good ❤️
You talk about how when we speak it is not music, but your speaking to me is so musical and dynamic. Lovely video and demonstration
Music is beautiful, after watching your videos I have realised how complex it is. I surrender my dream of being a good singer to 'autotune'.

You keep mentioning the twelve tones of the keyboard, which I understand it's convenient, but that's based on the musical system of western Europe. I have heard accounts of Carnatic music where the are 22 different srutis in an octave, and people like Dr. Balamuralikrishna say that they can perceive 27 different srutis inside an octave. Systems like Arabic music have 37 notes in an octave. I know this video is not about microtonal music, but it's important for us to remember that the 12 tone system is not a universal standard, and especially not an Indian standard. This might be the reason why our traditional music does not sound good on the keyboard like it does on fretless instruments like violin. In any case, I love your channel, please continue the great work!

Even Western european music doesn't always stick to the equal temperament. Musicians playing baroque music often use the “quarter comma meantone" where the 5th is lowered (from the Pythagorean 3/2) by the quarter of a comma (81/80) so that 4 successive 5ths form an acoustic 3rd (5/4 instead of 81/64). It is still possible to modulate to nearby tones (e.g. D major or B major from C major) without dissonance. Why Indian music practically uses the equal temperament is beyong my understanding.
Super fantastic

You are a #poet Will you sing a #duet Well not as good as you. Nice poetry.
Wonderful! I appreciate the immense control you show of releasing appropriate doses of knowledge. Usually one is so busy showing off one’s musical heritage on KZread. The recipient - the student or the shrota- tends to become secondary. That’s the remarkable thing about how you’ve designed this series. Bravo!! That said, I’m curious if you will also introduce the use of shrutis as the ‘slightly higher ri of xxx raga’ or the ‘unresolved dha of yyyy raga’, and subtleties of shrutikari that one can only learn from a guru. 🙏🏽
Thanks

Awesome content. How to start recognizing the shruthi of a song ? Any tips?
Interesting
Always been looking for this kind of vocal lessons. I would like ask something, how long do I need to practise the lessons from each video before i go to next video? How do I evaluate myself before going next video? Is all your videos need to be followed in sequence or I can just jump into any other video.? Kindly advise guru..

Hello! Our KZread channel contains standalone videos which give an overview of certain topics and exercises. They are not a continuous course so they do not follow a systematic flow of lessons. You can view the videos in any sequence as they are applicable to all levels. If you are looking at a chapterwise course you could check out our VoxGuru app.
