The fact that so many of Conans greatest recurring bits came during the writers strike and his show actually got better during that time is a testament to his comedic genius.

I've been listening to Conan's podcast for forty-seven years, I'm Greek, and I'm not going to take this abuse anymore.

Greeks really do say a lot of things....

Sona's laugh is the equivalent of an entire audience.

What I absolutely love about this clip is that it contains one of the few examples of Conan *not* landing a joke ... and, let's be honest, we've all been there ... but handling it perfectly. At 8:24 he tries to squeeze a little bit more out of the current track (and Sona's not feeling it), then he tries again at 8:36 (and Sona's still not feeling it), and so at 8:41 he realizes he's exhausted that particular thing and perfectly saves it by transitioning via a previous winner --- the whole "Conan specifically and oddly hates Greek people" bit --- and then we're off to the next thing, with a fresh start. Great improv, and it really hammers home the "laboratory of comedy" vibe I get from these videos.

I've found it really interesting to observe the juxtaposition between the writers brain (Conan) and the improvisers brain (Gourley). Matt will go first thought and always try to go in wacky directions, but Conan will stay on a joke or a line and work it until it's reached maxed potential. Sometimes past the breaking point (as you mentioned) but it's a great dynamic that works well.

"I'm in the corner trying to order a plastic santa" "My wife says that's cool on the tree, but I swear the god if I was let free" Man, all this rhyming

I appreciate people who go all out and decorate for the holidays. I was a JW until recently and the only thing I had to look forward to were the lights and decorations. I love when people decorate their cars; every once in awhile you'll see an flattened elf on the grill of someone's truck :D

january 6 is 3 kings day in uruguay. kids get gifts on that day over there! many armenians in uruguay, btw.

For me, this is the best gift. The gift of the gentle giant of comedy.

I don't remember if they celebrate it in Armenia, but in Russia we also have New Year by the old calendar. We call it "old new year". It's a week after orthodox christmas.

Before Conan even said it, I had that lighted Santa in my head! I know EXACTLY what those looked like! I also LOVE colored lights. White is bland. I am in CT and grew up in the 70s-80s so have a lot of similar stories/memories. Conan would LOVE my decorations!

I’m Puerto Rico growing up Christmas was a small holiday but Jan 6 we would celebrate 3 Kings day as the main gift giving holiday which makes sense to me because that was the day Jesus got presents

In high school I had a friend whose father would always say he needed to have enough lights on the house to be able to read the paper at night. This included a light up sign pointing to the chimney saying “the fat man goes here”. It was epic.

Gourley’s callback to the human centipede was brilliant!

You should have Neil and/or other family members on the podcast. Bet there are some entertaining stories there.

Everyone should be silly & go hog wild during festivals. That's what they're there for. Approaches like his wife's are what's wrong. Be "sophisticated" on normal days, have fun on festivals. And it must be shared w/family & friends. So home is the place to do it. And the woke "I don't wanna force them to SEE" is stupid. Let them also celebrate theirs & express themselves.

For the past few years I have my Christmas a few days after the 25th. Not only does it save money but it saves stress. Keeps me from buying a Walgreens present. The best gift I gave myself because I brought it up to my family and everyone agreed. This way I do the in laws on Christmas day and my own family 5 siblings, 20 grandchildren celebrate tl usually on the next Friday. Buy some gifts from the discounted rate. This way I can spend all day with the in-laws and a full day with my side and the same applies to my brothers and sisters. We used stress only spending a few hours then traveling half the day making two different sides. Ended in an argument with the wife. If anyone gets the chance to try it you will never regret it.

Yup. I’m Armenian and my birthday is also on Armenian Christmas so January 6 this year was pretty dark and dramatic
