Australian football sounds freaking awesome. No pads, no breaks in the action, using hands and feet, and jumping off other players is not only legal, but encouraged. That sounds like the best aspects of Hockey, soccer (football), and football (american football), all rolled into one sport that was made to be as entertaining as possible.

All our footy is like that, you should check out rugby league and rugby union although rugby league is better. The problem with AFL, the game Conan just played is that it looks really clumsy and unorganised, the ball is super light so its harder to keep hold of. Rugby league is more organised, has offense and defence but also no pads, helmet etc. Plus I love the scrums, everyone just jumps onto a pile of bodies with the poor guy with the ball at the bottom, its really funny. We think its odd the way Grid Iron has so much protection!

@@lanaconin5704 A Football is more heavy than a rugby ball.. Its leather (try kicking it in the wet when its waterlogged). Hence it doesn't loft through the air with a kick, its made to be more accurate. Rugby balls are too bouncy light and grippy from the rubber. No tactic to league at all. Run straight, pass backwards, kick on the fifth. repeat and repeat. Thats the reason why Footballs taking over Australia. Average attendance to games is the third highest in the world. NSW is becoming more and more Aussie Rules as kids love playing it. Auskick programs working great, and now the AFLW is taking off. Over 40,000 attending to the AFL Women's Grand Final. The sport as a whole is growing dramatically in all states. 1 in every 10 people are a paid member to an AFL club in Australia. Richmond FC alone has over 100,000 Members, Whilst both Sydney teams grow in member size too, the swans have reached over 60,000..

Average players are between 18 and 25. Their body shape is closer to a triathlete because the emphasis is on running and endurance. The average player can kick the ball to someone running full speed from 40 metres and hit them on the chest. In the last 4 years the tackling has become the most important thing from the players without the ball. Richmond has become the most physically aggressive team and consequently the best team on average in that period.

I absolutely LOVE watching American's, and people from other places and cultures, come and play, talk, try to join in with Aussie culture, because Aussie's love it and make fun of it, not at the expense of the person, which people often take offence or make a big deal of. It's the, to use Irish heritage language, the banter, the banter, to laugh, at the situation. You aren't laughing nessesarily at the person, but at the silliness of the bond that now is forming because you are sharing a moment.

Honestly, one of the most underrated and enjoyable sports out there. Combines the height and athleticism of basketball (my true sports love), with the endurance and elite kicking skills of soccer/football. I'm 6'4, and although I was very hooper (I was the starting point guard on an AAU team with 2 ESPN Top100 players, a future NCAA Champ, AND a future NBA Champ), but I honestly think I could have been a great tall midfielder or medium defender in Footy. God, it's just such a perfect sport! Oh, and despite not having helmets, has a fraction of the concussion issues per player compared to the NFL. Git ur s*** together, Goodell! 😏
