Portugueses have, celta, fenician, lusitan, mouro,árabe and gipcy etnicitys. It's a mix of a history of the Portugal , in a Song. India and japan influencie, to is because of Portugal das the firts country no go there, many centurys ago. It's portuguese history in a futuristic Song. It's a very nice in did.🎼🎶🎤

Another 'daring' and 'outside of the box' song from Portugal, again not in English, again with a melody that is not that memorable (unlike "Amar Pelos Dois", which had a super memorable and catchy melody).

It is not a fair comparison. Something did not go quite right in the final event. After all, no one expected the same country to repeat back to back. In my opinion, Isaura who has a great voice should have left Cláudia sing along. But she wanted to be on the same stage because she was the composer and felt too close to the song. She was told many other ways to show up on the grand stage but instead she decided to sing around Cláudia.

This song from Conan Osiris is a masterpiece in the way that he uses strong metaphores for the use of cellphones in the society, and the art that he makes mixing sounds that represent the multiculturalism of Portugal. And YES, AGAIN NOT IN ENGLISH, portuguese is our language, and we defend our cultural heritage, that's the spirit of eurovision, each country should show up their cultural heritage through the music. I think it's a bigger value to sing in language of the country. And please don't compare with other years, they are diferent artists, with diferent styles...

@@MVUK358 Tbf last year we ranked last more because of Salvador's attitude and openly mocking of the Israeli song than for bringing a bad song

In Portugal, people either love him or hate him, specially because of the lyrics, some people think he doesn't say anything, and is just a joke, and other people think his a genius and find deep meanings in his words. Personally i don't take his words so deep, but i like him for his creativity and talent, he made something new, i don't see it as only a song but it's like a construction of art with all the performance and interpretation. The first round they got 12 points from the public and only 7 from jury, let's see...

not really, it isn't that new kind of a performance, gesh - country doesn't release some pop ballad and people are freaking out as if someone found new continent

this is SO BEYOND ESC tbh, he's amazing, his sound omg there's so many elements of so many cultures, you can literally taste gypsy, asia, tribal cultures from africa, caribbean instruments, classical instruments... Conan is BEYOND, this is pure *tALENT*

the dancer is present in other conan osiris live performances, so it's pretty much part of the project. you cannot get rid of him, he enhances the frenzy on stage.

it SHOULD win the festival da canção... now go tell that to the juries...

it's so good listening to reviews from people that really know music

People need to appreciate the authenticity of the song, it’s not your normal generic pop song which makes it stand out

I had heard the song... and could not get it. But now that I've seen the performance....I'm hooked. The staging really conveys the message and takes you to a magical place. I hope it will win.... at least I'll be able to vote. So far I could not vote because there was nothing which had really enchanted me.

He's changing mindsets, breaking boundaries, we're mesmerized.

Not really into this kind of experimental song, but this could be the act where whole Europe is talking about during May.

The reason why he is wearing sneakers is because he likes to play with opposites like traditional vs modern. He does it in his songs and in his clothes. The mask is a reference to Osiris, the egipcian God, and symbol of spirituality. The sneakers represent the ultra modern fashion and a symbol of materialism. Duality is his playground.

The reaction says it all . This is the one Portugal without a doubt .

"Telemoveis" is a beautiful song about the lack of comunication in love and between people trough the figure of the cel phones....But this performance is ART. Conan Osiris should give us the chance of feel this emotion again in Tel Aviv.

This guy is só further in time MG. It's amazing! 1st time i heard i was like WTF is This bit then i started to pay more attention and now i just can't get enough of it. Só this can only mean that this guy is a genius!

This MUST go to Tel Aviv - this is art for eurovision. And the fusion of so many influences recommends it for eurovision too. I am going to vote for this performance in May ;) Hey William and Deban - you forgot to mention the text - have you read the translation?! Impressive.

At first it sounds strange, but then it grows on you... In such a way that it becomes a highly addictive drug. It is not by chance that Vodafone and FNAC are advertising the song; even Billboard has posted an article on their website about it. The mix of fado with funk and the Arab sounds that transport us to the Middle East is what makes this proposal of Conan Osiris so special and capable of making the difference in Tel Aviv.

I'm Portuguese and yep, I hope Conan will be our 2019 representant because of all you guys mentioned. Even if Eurovision doesn't understand him at least we'll leave a heck of an impression. He's just so out of the box! :-)

Conan is the future..... today

Conan Osíris is na amazing art experiment. It's like I'm not just listening to music, but a whole drama, painting, esculpture, song at the same time. Most negative criticism he gets here in Portugal is from people who can't see past the literal meaning of his lyrics. Like he said in na interview, it doesn't need to "mean something", sometimes words are just sounds and metric, as if they were musical tones.

Love your reaction and your opinions, you made so many interesting points and the last One about this being polarizing act, it was spot on! I hope that our juris listen to your opinions because you have a huge experience through the years in the eurovision world... i started to see your blog since 2017 before the big win of Salvador and saw how much committed and professionals you are and i agree when " you " starting to see a real dark horse... Conan mesmerize , polarize and causes all this sensations with different styles and cultural ethnics mixed sounds , some people says that his lyrics are empty ,others see deepness in the words and i see in his metaphors something transcendental...i just started to listen to his work 2 months ago ... it´s real f...adictive ...The haters can´t stop talking about ...the lovers the same ;) Its gonna be huge in the pre-partys of eurovision if has the luck of represent Portugal ! One of the most wrongly “supposed public likes”, are the youtube likes, many of them (which took them to eurovision), was the supposed people likes but the most of the people just saw them to laught, only laugh. Some of the new generation probably like them, I don’t. Perhaps the “song masses nowadays” change tastes, in my opinion.

The jury will probably vote differently if he sings the song by the studio version. PT - O júri talvez vote de forma diferente se ele seguir a versão gravada.

He won the popular vote and I love his work ever since I heard it some many months ago with the NOS spot.

Conan Osiris is, probably, one of the most polarised singers that went to the "Festival da Canção" (FdC). His video on the FdC KZread channel has more than 2 million views, and over here, of course, the comedians have a blast with him and his excentric manners. One of them, Portugalex, made a spoof video of "Telemóveis". To this day, it has one million visualizations! Honestly, I want him to win, not just the FdC, but the Eurovision Song Contest, just to shut up those who hate him. He's a genius, something that we didn't see for some 35 years ago, when we had António Variações. In my view, it's a "Variaçães reborn", something very fresh, very new. Even of he's not chosen (i hope not), he won. Now, everybody knows who he is... he and the dancer!

Thanks a lot, William and Derek. Most Portuguese people love this, because this is unique although strange. But there are also many people who really hate it they sing it's not a nice song, it's too crazy or avant-garde, etc., etc.. I think he will for sure win the televote, but we are afraid of a conservative jury. Let's tell them we want him in ESC 2019: let's do it!

The music reflects very much the sonorities where Portugal passed and walked throughout Centuries. Multiculturalism is very present in the sound. I hope he goes to Eurivisão 2019

I am Portuguese and this song is actually about trying to reach someone who has passed away. But he is asking, who is really killing who, cause he feels like he is dying even tho is the person he is trying to reach that is dead.

He refuses to explain any of his lyrics, but most of them are about serious and very primordial stuff, like love, family and death, but then he disguises that with a layer of silly stuff, like, "I'm gonna smash my cell phone" (which is the catch line from "telemóveis" lyrics). He said in an interview that he doesn't explain his lyrics, because he likes to see people trying to solve the riddles: "if they get it, they get it, if they don't, maybe they will later". This is incredibly clever and fun. I personally think the lyrics from this song are about grieving for someone who died, and contemplating the choice between living through grief or dying from heartbreak. (He chooses to live, in the end). I'm so impressed by this kid. I hope he keeps going.
